Had a real nasty bout with cyno a.k.a. "red-slime" about a year ago. *Looking back I believe it was in large part due to the fact that the skimmer I had never actually worked correctly. I ended up dosing with Red-Slime, which took care of the problem for quite a while (no ill effects on the fish/corals). That treated and took care of the outbreak but did nothing for the cause. I started having another outbreak a couple of weeks back, this time the cyno is dark green in color but still the same properties as the red. I decided to try and correct the actuall problem this tiem around...1) new bulbs 2) new skimmer 3) kalk drip 4) added a powerhead for increased flow.
Just a few days running the new skimmer, PH, and kalk drip, appear to be having some effect. As stated int he last post the cyno on the sand bed appears to be retreating a tad. The skimmer has been pulling out a ton of goop. Should have the new bulbs any day, which I think will also help quite a bit. Fingers are crossed!
