Hello everyone as the title say am looking for a kalk reactor since this the frist time using this whould like to know the pro / cons from using a kalk reactor that uses a pump vs a stirr which is spinning 24/7 plz let me know
It will be mostly sps tank is 48x30x20 thanks right now am running a mrc cal reactor with no c02 just passing through the system as I have under 5 sps your help would be gladly appreciated thanks......

I have the MRC Kalk reactor and it's great because of the oversized pump they put on it that never has any problems. When you get the smaller throw away pumps, people always complain that they break down or clog with Kalk powder. The MRCs are large and high capacity. I didn't go with Reef Octopus because they were too small. Not with Avast Marine because the container doesn't seal, and not with Precision Marine or Geo because they use the small Cobalt pumps. My second choice in line would have been the Reef Octopus stirrer, but it wasn't large enough for me.

Also, if you have a stirrer that runs 24/7 your going to have to replace that motor in a year or two. I've had my Kalkreactor from MRC for about 8 years and never had to replace the pump. It mixes the solution like once every four hours for 30 seconds.

Well since you mentioned song Browns my choice was a Geo reef 612 kalk since it comes with the cobalt 600 which is 160 gph and can be easily upgrade to a 1200 which is 295 Gph shouldn't this be enough how many gallons per hour is your pan world

I've owned a Geo kalk reactor for 15+ years. I had my 2 cents in with the first one Geo designed. I sold that one and bought another one a couple years later. The two that I've owned use Maxi Jet power heads. The only problem with them is the impellers lose blades over time (about a year) and require you to install a new one.

FWIW, I run the power head 2-3 times a day for about 5 minutes to stir things up.

Thanks changing a $20-$30 pump no big deal running for 5 minutes sounds like a bit much I mean I'm no expert in kalk reactor compared to other people

I've been collection MJ impellers since the late 90's. I figure I can go another 2-3 years until I have to swap out to another kind of pump. They don't make MJ's like they used to.

5 minutes or 50 minutes, it doesn't matter to my top off system..

wow!! I had to delete that picture

Not sure on the gph. The point was it doesn't break down. Geo is certainly a solid choice and a quality reactor.

Happy Reefing!
