I do not have much of a pH swing, about 0.15 - 0.2, but I would like to get the top value to 8.4

I am currently topping off with baked baking soda to help somewhat and to keep up with my alk needs. I also have my skimmer drawing outside air to help raise my pH. My pH was in the range of 7.8 - 8, before I started doing the skimmer thing.

I think Kalk would be right up your alley. The extra kalk would increase ph as well as bring up the Ca and Alk. While yours is just fine, a little extra up to 450-480 and 9-11 dkh is going to be fine.

Think it would be ok to use my auto topoff instead of a drip? I have a 10g resevior for topoff. I have noticed that if I fill the resevior completely full that the baking soda does not work well because it take 10 days to use it, so I have been using 5gs instead.

i would do the auto topoff. you wont have to mess with it at all. just put the kalk in with your topoff water and your done.

I just converted my cheapo calcium reactor into a kalk reactor, and hooked it into my auto top off. I hope it works like i want it too.

The drawback to topping off with kalk, if it is added too fast your Ph will go thru the roof. You'll have to mix at a lower concentrate. I only drip at night to maintain Ph levels, sorta maintain anyway. When I tried the drip thru the day, Ph went too high. I mix 1 1/2 teaspoons per gallon btw.

May be wrong, just my 2 cents.

I would definitely add it to your auto topoff. This will allow a gradual drip so you don't spike any water parameters.

FWIW, I have a water jug set up with an IV Drip, punched it through the bottom of the jug, and sealed it with superglue. I also made a debris trap in case any extra Kalkwasser gets into the line. I made it from a medicine bottle. I'll see if I can take pictures.
