Kalkwasser advise....

Hey all...So i just started up my 210 again. In the next 2 weeks the first fish will be going in..Chromis and firefish. Ultimately, I want this to become a mixed reef. Mostly LPS with some SPS.

Doing weekly water changes, and not adding Kalk, my PH is 7.9, and Calcium is 350.

My question is...should I be dosing Kalk now, even though there aren't any corals, and probably won't be any corals for quite a few months? In essence, I'll have a FOWLR for at least 6 months.

If I do dose Kalk, will that promote Coraline Algae growth? I'm leaning towards dosing it just for this reason.

I also have Seachem Reef Calcium I could be dosing as well.

Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks all!

Yes, Kalk will help with Coralline algae growth. However, if you don't have a lot of calcium uptake, it might be somewhat unnecessary. I would monitor your Ca and Alk levels and see where they are.

Re: Kalkwasser advise....

You may want to dial in your calcium to where you want it and then flip the switch on the kalk. It will immediately boost your pH up into the low 8's.
