Kalkwasser-what is it?

I have always seen this, and have never asked what it was. You guys will probably laugh when you read this, but help me out..

Also, the search bar was not working (go figure ) what do you type in to search reef central off of google. EX. search site:reef central, etc. THANKS

That article should help. Kalk is calcium hydroxide or calcium oxide, and makes a good alkalinity and calcium supplement.

Ok, cool. I have a few questions still though. First, since this is a calcium supplement, if I were to dose with this would I not need the calcium and calcium buffer by kent marine? Also, I looked at one of the links on that page on how to build a DIY kalkwasser doser. How often do you need to dose kalkwasser? Or do you just test your PH and add accordingly? THANKS

based on what your test kits tell you, you do things.
does your kit tell you your calcium is low? then add 2-part ca or kalk or turbocalcium.
your pH tester has no idea how much calcium is in the water, so no, you don't just test pH and dose accordingly.

But do monitor your pH more closely when you start using kalk.
maybe you can't raise ca or alk with just kalk because the pH goes too high, so you have to customize for your setup


The only potential downside to kalk dosing is the potential to raise pH, so watch your values
