Kasey's 60g

My wife's on the love seat probably thinking, "What have I gotten myself into?!" She's pretty excited about it.

My wife thinks that all the time too. But when she gives me that look I usually tell her, "Honey, I let you hang paintings of ducks in the dinning room, so I get a fish tank."

 :D

LOL

Looks great Kasey, can't wait to see this one up and running! I'm interested to see how that single 250w will look. If i can persuade the wife, I've been wanting to setup a deep blue 80 rimless. However, I can't really figure out what 48" double mh/t5 combo light I should go with?

i love the rimless look. keep us updated

Nice clean setup, love the rimless look and the dimensions.

Thank you, both, for the encouragement. I've always been a big fan of the rimless look.

Looks great Kasey! Reminds me of your 90 gal you had. Gonna be awesome!

Thanks Jack! I'm hoping it takes off...unlike my 90g. :p

You laugh, but the funny part is: I put those duck picture up, AND I had to fight her to do so. :lmao: I grew up in the country. :)

LOL

Yeah, the single 250w will definitely look different; I'm just hoping that it's a 'good' different.

Coralvue makes a nice combo fixture. It's bulky, but has great reflectors.

Alright glad to see you back into it man! Can't wait to see it running.

Thank you, sir! I'm looking forward to the running part as well. :D it's at the point where there's always one small thing I have to do before powering on. :p

Few quick updates:

I decided to go with a 20g long sump for the add footprint, and I started plumbing. I'm not happy yet, but it's a start. I'll probably redo the return; the positioning isn't the best.

Are you going to run your sump without baffles? I've been thinking about going to a baffle less sump on my nano for more room.

very nice! Subscribed, looking forward to seeing the plumbing and aquascape

What material did you use for the overflow? Or what material is it?

I'm sure you've already thought about this, but just in case...how are you going to position your powerheads?

The only issue I have with my peninsula is not being able to have a powerhead at the end of the tank without it looking weird, which kind of sucks. It'd be nice to have a powerhead to breakup the flow coming from the other side...

Do you have a fish list in mind yet?

Yes, I plan to run this sump without baffles. I like the purpose of baffles, but I want to place my 6045 in the sump to try to keep detritus suspended. Baffles would make that a little more difficult.

The overflow came already installed, but I think the material is some kind of ABS plastic.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope I won't disappoint. :)

Very nice, can´t wait to see this reef full of corals :-)

Thanks for the compliment Denadai. You're tanks have been an inspiration to me. I love the simplicity. Yet, your filtration is great. You seem to cover all your bases and still keep it simple. I really like that.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that. With my 65g, I simply added a ton of flow with the two MP40's. That tank was bare bottom, so there was no issue with sand storms.

With this tank, I want high flow, but I also want sand as well. I'm going with two 6055's controlled by the Apex Jr's VDM. With the Tunzes, I can angle this upwards and hopefully avoid the sand storms. I'm using the wide outlets from the 6095 nanostreams. I'm hoping I can point them very close to reef to create some good turbulent movement. We'll see what happens. :p

As far as fish go, I'm feeling:

2 Ocellaris
1 Fairy Wrasse
2-3 Sunburst Anthias
Maybe some Chromis

And for my trick...

And for my trick...

I'll make my tank disappear!

Opposite of what makes sense, I decided to hang my lights after I placed the tank. I used a laundry basket and a sheet to keep the popcorn ceiling from getting in the water as i drilled the holes. Surprisingly enough, there's a stud centered with the tank. :D

Plumbing is pretty much done. Just need to get the temp, pH, KH, and salinity in check. After that, I can move the livestock and work on the rest. (Controller, raceways, ATO res, etc.)

I look forward to seeing how you tackle the overflow into your sump. Are you going sock less? If so, how do you plan on controlling micro bubbles?
