Katie's CAD Lights 34g Nano

Hello everyone!

I'm relatively new here, but a little less new with aquariums. My first saltwater tank was a 55g reef which got upgraded to a 125g reef. Unfortunately it lived at my ex-boyfriend's house and after we broke up, I left it with him in his house due to its huge size. It is still running and actually won a local TOTM while I was taking care of it, which is neat since I hand made every rock in the tank (not recommended, it took WEEKS). I am now in a small apartment, with the high probability of moving around in the future, so the new plan is to keep it small enough for me to move around and care for by myself.

So! Here we go. The new tank is 34 gallons. Filtration will be a little overkill to minimize maintenance and allow for a little higher bioload. Again, in minimizing maintenance I'll be using the IM Maximini reactors as you can just pull the canisters right out without messing with anything in the tank. LED lights with programmable cycles and moonlights, as I work in healthcare in the Emergency department so my hours are all over the place, so extending the photoperiod with a few hours of moonlights will dramatically increase my viewing of the tank coming home and leaving. Heater is the Cobalt Neotherm 75watt, chosen for its length as the water level in the back of the tank will be relatively low, I may need 2 in the future, but I live in Arizona so my apartment is in the mid/upper 70s constantly (via AC) so it really only needs to raise the temp a little, we'll see how it does.

As far as inhabitants, it will be a reef tank with easy to keep corals. I like softies and LPS the most, I like the flow and movement. Fish will be small. I love the designer clowns, will be an non-matching pair of something cute, and ocellaris for sure to keep them small and as least aggressive as possible. I really want a red sea mimic blenny, I adore them and they're small. The rest are just ideas. CUC for sure as well.

Suggestions?

I will more thank likely end up buying coral attached to live rock so I can build up some, this is so I have a nice base to start with. I want it sort of sparse, "less is more" kind of look.

Sweet build, I have the same tank set up and its awesome. If you ever set up your reactor, you will enjoy the lack of thought in regards to rear chamber set up. I have my pls50 on the false wall baffle and the reactor right after it with the return turned towards the skimmer intake. Since the do not make a media basket yet for the rear chambers, I feel the rear chambers was poorly designed for the reactor and skimmer. But its working the way I have it set up and the tank itself is awesome.
I added a hydor 425 opposite the mp10 to reduce the sand from building up on one side of the tank and of course to add more flow.
Here is a pic of mine

Drama, your tank looks great. I can't wait to get water in mine. Waiting on my RO/DI unit to be delivered and for a couple days off work to do it all. I am going to be using the reactors. I agree, the media chamber is HUGE and no real media chamber inserts will fit it. I think at some point I'll make one, for now I'll probably just shove filter floss in there. In the middle chamber I have 2 minimax reactors and the cadlights skimmer and I'm shocked how well they fit, I have plenty of room. Then in the far chamber I have the return pump and the heater. There is so much room in the back, it's great. Did you replace your return pump with something more powerful? I was thinking I wouldn't have to with the MP10, but maybe it would be worth it to balance out the current from the MP10. We'll see!

Thanks.
I have the same return. I will upgrade when it burns up.
Seems to be plenty of flow, I actually had to bend the loc line to slow it a lil.

Good to see another local reefer! Personally I like the 5th aqua scape the best, but I think you should choose whichever suits you best. If you get some cool corals maybe we can trade sometime, all I've got for lps currently is a gold torch that I will be fragging for a couple people when it grows out.

I know on the local forum there is a nice deal on 2 designer clowns that someone has for sale, but I don't think your tank is even cycling yet. Good luck with the tank, it has nice demensions, It should look great when it's up and running.

Absolutely! Can't wait to get water in it. If I can get anything to grow enough to cut it apart I'd love to trade! Yeah, no expensive clowns for me just yet, but I imagine between live rock with corals and the filtration I'm running it won't take too long to get it going.

Sounds great! Sub'd! How close are you to getting water in?

Waiting for my rodi unit to get here! So water in on... Monday maybe! I'm also working this weekend fri-sat-sun-mon so that doesn't help. It'll be Tuesday at the latest. I also have some zeovit bacteria which should help things along.
