Kat's 120g Build Thread

well you know one of two things is happening when i'm quiet...i'm either trying to catch up on sleep...or acclimating....

I have to tell you, I had an absolute blast today. It was so nice meeting all of you. This was my first real swap....and I was so glad I chose to do this today over other things. There is some concern over here in that the clown tang, despite slow acclimation, is not doing very well. I'll probably stay up all night again...watching. He did eat a little...but his actions suggest that I may need to prepare myself. This, more than anything, is breaking my heart...i will keep you posted.

In the meantime, I do want to thank Randy and all the gang at ARC for making this so "user friendly" and extending some fantastic deals. To Kent, Chris, Brent, Cali, Coreen, Aaron...and the RTA guy...sorry forgot your name...even when we spent a good amount of time talking...just shoot me...and EVERYONE ELSE...thank you so much for the suggestions, the freebies and the laughs. Hope you all didn't mind a happy dance or two!

3 other paly frags, 4 to 7 polyps, rainbow monti, monti undata...totally cool, one head of Cali's Showstopper Acan....a nice large one...(Cali, you rock.), superman monti, an emerald green poci colony on a good size piece of rock...a powerbrite (1 down, two to go) free samples of fish pellets, which...my mandarins are devouring...

shoot....if there's anything else...i'll tell you in the morning when everything is awake.

Anyone that has contact with "fish angels"? please put a good word in for my tang...please...he was my favorite of the day...

kat- Any chance you can throw in another powerhead or two? That fish may fare better with lots of flow and highly oxygenated water.

They are beautiful fish, but I hate to see them in the aquarium trade.

Crossing fingers for you!

ok...that seems to be helping...definitely a little more perky...but he is taking little time outs from swimming....i don't think this is good...am i wrong?

What do you mean by "timeouts from swimming"? Chilling in a low flow spot in an upright position or laying on the sand bed?

i would understand laying on the sand bed, Mel.....lmao. He's chilling in the back next to a rock in an upright postion. every now and then, he does a swim by and goes back. but he does stay there for 10-15 mins at a time.

Just clarifying. I didn't mean laying on the sand bed dead. When not doing well, some fish will be at the bottom in an off kilter position. If he's just hiding I wouldn't worry. I have yet to add a fish that stays right out in the open the same day it's added. Quite a few have actually taken a few days to get comfortable. If he does start breathing heavily, swimming funny or displaying ich then I'd start to worry.

well, i'm sitting here on the loveseat, he just "bounced" swam over to me, took a peek, and is swimming around. Breathing heavy as is slow and labored, or fast and frantic? Looks like he keeps going back to the same little cave and rests on the sandbed...upright.

the bouncing swimming thing...normal for this kind of tang?

He's stressed. Either he will get used to the tank and settle in or he will stress himself to death. I know there was a discussion about what size tank Clown Tangs need to be in and people suggested you should be ok for a while but exactly how big is this fish?

Only other suggestion is to make sure the 120g isn't still cycling through Ammonia or Nitrite as that would definately stress him out. Otherwise if water quality and aeration are good and he's only 3", he probably just needs some time to relax and settle in. If I remember right, he was obtained from a fellow hobbyist rather than an LFS. How long did the prior owner have him?

the Am/Ni spiked a little over a week ago and went back to zero, Tuesday i believe. Drew had him for a few months. right now, Mel...he is swimming around quite a bit...in and out of caves....comes over looks at me and seems to be having some fun now....adding the third k4 seems to be helping...he started perking up right after that.
