Kaudern's Cardinalfish in groups?

Nearing the end of a cycle on a 60 gallon tank and starting to look forward to stocking. I know I'll have a pair of clowns, but beyond that am still exploring options. I really like the cardinals, but am reading conflicting (really conflicting) information on if they should be kept as a pair or if a slightly larger (like 3-5) group would be appropriate.

Any thoughts on keeping more than a pair in a relatively small tank?

In my experience hey eventually pick one another off until there is just 2 left anyway.
