Keep Nem from moving?

Is there a way to keep an anenome from moving around rock to rock? I wanna say I read somewhere they wont cross sand is that true or did I trick myself into thinking that? By the way the anenome I have is a Condy if that makes a difference.

I wouldn't count on sand from keeping a rock dwelling anemone from moving. The key to keeping an anemone (( even non hosting ones )) is to provide them the conditions that they prefer (( which can/will vary by anemone species )). But, keeping your parameters in check and not messing with your flow too much are two big ones.

I have been told that condy's are really bad about moving around. When i owned a condy every morning i got up it was in a new place.

+1 on condys being big movers. Also, in general (though not necessarily for condys that seem to move), if a nem is moving it's usually a sign that something isn't right about the conditions it is currently in, and it's moving to search out a condition that it finds more favorable.

i have never found a sure fire way to keep them from moving. I let them move until they find a happy spot and then I just hope for the best. And then i accidentally put a new coral in such a way that it changes the flow to it and then it starts all over again.

I've never seen anemones like quadracolor and magnifica travel through the sand. Condylactis, I wouldn't put it past them, if the sand is shallow enough for them to reach the bottom glass with their foot and the conditions where they are, are simply horrible. They typically keep their foot concealed in a hole anyway. If a healthy mag or BTA were placed on an isolated rock island, I don't believe they would leave. At least I've never seen it happen. Maybe I could see it happening, if they simply could not survive the conditions on the island. In witch case they would most likely detach from the rock and drift away before trying to move through the sand. I don't keep quadracolor very often, but I've always had success with keeping magnifica and Condylactis isolated by using a rock island.

when i got my gbta i placed in on the sand and it moved until it was in a happy place, so yes they can travel in the sand, at least IME:celeb1:
