Keeping an aquarium on a table?

I would get something with a solid base so that accidental bump from a vacuum to a leg doesn't flood your house.

I had a 13 gallon tank on an Ikea Expedit. Those are pretty sturdy.

The table in the 1st link looks more solid than the 2nd table you posted, to me at least.

Installing metal bracing and crossbracing. A 50 gallon tank (approx your 155 liters) can weigh 88 pounds (abt 40 kg) empty, and add 400 more lbs (181 kg) for water.

Plus, if the water gets to sloshing, it imparts quite a bit of sideways force. I'd get something that was more like a cube or cabinet, and less something relying on 4 legs.

+1 don't try it. I had my 30 gal on a table for a couple months and it always made me very nervous so I built my own that I knew would hold up.

Could it work? Yes.
Would it work? Probably, Yes.
But as been pointed out- it has no real anti-racking for such a heavy weight on it.

Was either one of those designed to hold a 155L fish tank, rocks, substarte, etc. etc.?
No, I'm sure it wasn't.

Do they have a 'CraigsList' in Scotland? Maybe something similar you could find a used one.
YOu do like I did for my 180G ~ 730L?- Build your own!

I'm nervous for you at the thought of it. I've placed tanks up to 20 gallons on counter tops, but never a table, and even that worried me from time to time.

Take the money you would spend at Ikea, go to Lowe's or HD. Just buy some 2x4s and plywood and make a stand yourself. There are plenty of plans on this site to help with design.

I find Ikea furniture to be the most stable and longest lasting compared to crap from other stores. Unless you're buying solid wood but I'm not 100 years old and change styles too much to waste money on that. ;)

It looks like It would but I wouldn't trust it. Either build a stand yourself so you know you can trust or buy one off craigslist. I think buying a table from ikea is a bad idea as their furniture is cheaply made and also not meant for this use. That table also looks like it has no finish so if it gets wet it will rot and stink.
