Keeping different types of clownfish now okay??

So someone just told me that the hobby advanced to the point we can now house multiple types of clownfish in a small aquarium, that aggression is no longer an issue..

How did the hobby suddenly change this? Anyone care to add? I was under the impression that it may work for a small amount of time but that in the long run some of them are just going to kill each other..

You are correct. Different species of clowns can be paired, and some species can be kept in single species groups, but multiples of different species in a small tank (or anything but a very large tank) is a bad, bad idea.

4 or 5 special occasions out of hundreds doesnt mean that the hobby has changed. Just because it works for a few people doesnt mean its gonna work for everyone. I still think it is a bad idea and have seen many clowns die because of people being ignorant.

Usually this works when the clowns are juvis, once they mature it usually goes downhill from there. When you see different species of clowns in a tank 9 times out of 10 they havent even been together for more than a couple of months.

To me, that is no where near being successful.

he claims theyve been together for 12 months, two out of the three i saw. i told him it would work when theyre young but wouldnt past that but doesnt really care.

the other person who said the hobby changes and that you can do things like that was a Moderator on our forum, so i found it pretty sad

FWIW, I have an ocellaris pair and a pink skunk pair that are often within 6" of each other, and rarely more than 18" apart in my 120 gallon tank. Both spawn regularly and never fight that I've seen. The pink skunks are much more interested in challenging their reflections. :D
