keeping recordia happy

Can't seem to get mine to open up and look good, I had it for over a month and it does not open fully. There is abot 7 of them mounted on liverock. I have other mushrooms that seem to do fine. I moved the ricordia from center to the botttom of the aquarium. I run 250 watt MH and do have quite a bit of flow. I read that they adapt to conditiond. In the wild they are found in turbid water that a little cloudy.
Any ideas ? I see setups at the lfs which have more flow and more light than i have and their ricordias are open and looking good.
Need some help to make them happy

Rics are notoriously finicky. I tried them a couple times about a year ago and they melted away. A few months ago I got a new colony of R. florida and they are doing great. Medium light and flow seems to be the key, but there's probably some other unknown water parameter that's critical for their well being.

I run carbon and phosguard I thinking of not using phosguard to see if it helps. Other mushrooms seem to do alright.
Just started feeding phyto this week so far no difference

Try moving them to the bottom with less flow. 250 isn't too much light for them but they may need to be acclimated to it. They will do fine on the bottom and if you want to have them up in the rocks just move them up slowly. In my experience my ricordia do better in areas of the tank with little to moderate flow. All of mine are on the bottom of the tank with the yumas, but i am running 400's so i don't move them up.

Mine are approximately 12" from the surface, which is 8" below my 250w mh. Current is indirect and strong enough to see them blow in it. They like to filter small particles from the water, which might be one reason they do better on the bottom, but I have seen them in high current areas attached to rocks in relatively clear water also.

This is it , Moved it today from off the bottom to just below the middle of the aquarium.

All but those top lonely ones to the right look good to me. FWIW Your rocks look like you might have a nutrient issue.

IMO you would be better off feeding cyclopeeze, a zooplankton

Most lps and softies prefer zooplankton

target feed them mysis shrimp, i use a turkey baster, its amazing watching them eat. i feed PE mysis shrimp a few times a month.
