Yes you can, just keep them on the top half of the tank.

what kind of bulbs do you have? quality bulbs make a big difference.
If you remove the splash guard, use a fan to blow on the fixture (not the bulbs) it will also boost output. You can keep SPS under a Tek.

I have the German bulbs, not sure how to spell it, geiserman. I have four athentics, one purple and one white.

Giesemann, do yo have Actinic + or Pure Actinic bulbs? there is a big difference in PAR between the two. You would want Actinic +.

Yes it is. But TEK is sufficient for the most part.
