Keeping stability

What are some tips for keeping stability in a 30g? My sps are not as happy as i want due to the stability of the tank.

ato for salinity stability
calcium reactor for alk/cal
magnesium supplement like b-ionics for mag stability
weekly waterchanges

+1 on luv4qt1004's post..

If it was me I would use 2 part and Tech - M to get Cal, Alk and Mag inline and stable then I would setup an ATO with Kalk to keep everything stable. I would then invest in a controller. Most tanks your size crash due to a heater malfunction so the controller will help in that reguard. It will also turn off lights if the water gets too warm. The controller and ATO can also be used when you upgrade to a bigger tank.. : )

Yep ^. Here is how I do it.
ATO
Kalk dosed through ATO
weekly water changes
weekly testing
RKL contoller

Auto top off with kalk and two part dosing is the only way to keep stable parameters in my opinion. I have pretty large colonies in my tank and two large clams. Everything was fine for a couple of years with water changes and two part on a daily basis, but then I got slack for awhile and my tank really suffered as far as color. The growth was there and the colonies are pretty big. Miami Orchid is about 10" across. I started paying more attention when I had the time and noticed I just couldn't keep up with the alk and calcium consumption. Now I am using kalk in auto top off and started to see a difference withing a week or two. Now I am looking to dosing pumps, because I know I cannot keep up with a daily dosing regimen. It may happen for awhile but I can lose about 2dkh a day of alk. Sps don't like that.

I have a 24 gallon and I use an ATO, doser for alk, hand dose calcium daily, mag once a week, and I found that I am getting better colors now that I do smaller more frequent water changes. On a nano I think bigger water changes mess the stability up too much. I now do 1qt water changes every few days and my colors are getting way better than they ever have been.
