Keeping the cats from going fishing!

Eggcrate should be fine under the lights, I have been doing it for a couple years. Cats(most) don't like to walk on grated surfaces like that so they shouldn't try.

PS -- My cat did go fishing before the egg crate, as he was just jumping onto the tank he realized it was open and tired to make a mid air turn but still ended up half wet. It was a good way to test my new skimmer by seeing it pull cat hair out of the tank.

This is what happened with one of my kittens when we first brought him home. He didnt realize there was no lid on the tank, and jumped from the couch directly into the tank. He was so freaked out by the incident that he never wants to go near the tank anymore. This is what I meant by "pushing" him in. I would never literally do that to either of my cats.

I'm sure if the cat did jump into the tank it would only happen once :D I'm more worried about paws contantly in the tank, as its only 18" above the back of the couch.

But I've decided to go with a canopy just to be safe. I feel bad that gravesj1s went out of his way to set me up with some conduit and a hanging kit that I was planning on using to suspend the light. If anyone is looking for something like that, let me know!

u could always make that clear netting screen top that im doing. that might work until NOODLES knocks the screen off.
