Kenosha and Racine

I was at Coral Corner on Wedensday around 1 ish and they weren't open yet. I asked a worker from another place next door if they ever open on time. Said never. They are suppose to open and noon.

Coral Corner - bought stuff there Wed. - best store north of the Ill border. GO THERE - but the guys ARE laid back about the hours. I would say they are always there after about 2.

What shop are you talking about in Kenosha? As far as I know Coral Corner is still open, course I haven't been there in a couple weeks.

Someone on nano-reef.com said that someone dumped bleach into Coral Corners tanks, is that true?

"About Coral Corner, did you hear what happened to them? Some jag walked in with bleach in a soda bottle and poured it into the tanks, wiping out a huge amount of their stock! Poor guys. I was there a couple of weeks ago though and they seem to be recovering nicely."

Yes, its true. I was the one that posted that news blurb. They're open and doing well. I'd call first before going though to make sure someone's there.

Here's the story:

RACINE â€" Benjamin Webb was helping a customer at The Coral Corner, 1300 Grange Ave., when Joshua Molnar, an acquaintance, came in the store.

Molnar asked a few questions about saltwater fish, then rounded the corner, walked past some tanks and left the store. When Webb, an owner of the store, walked down the aisle Molnar had been in he saw dying fish in three separate tanks and smelled bleach.

Webb said a very small amount of chlorine could cause the fish to die quickly, and said there was a strong odor of bleach coming from the tanks. Molnar was the only person in the store with access to the tanks and chemicals, Webb said, as he was with the only other customer at the time of the incident.

The Sept. 15 incident caused more than $35,800 in damage to the tanks and fish. Strong chemicals like chlorine are deadly to the fish and corrosive to the plastic seals that keep water in the tanks.

Molnar, 28, of Caledonia, has been charged with criminal damage to property. If convicted he could face up to $10,000 in fines and 3 1/2 years in prison. He has been released on a $1,000 signature bond. Molnar is due in court for a preliminary hearing later this month.

3 1/2 years in prision sounds about right. I never heard a thing about this when it happened. Sounds like they have recovered though. I'll have to get over there sometime soon and check the place out.

Some friend, eh? Sheesh. When I set up my nano tank, that's most likely where I'll be going for my LR and fish. I usually go to Aquatics Unlimited for most things, but CC is closer to me and they have some great LR pieces.

3 1/2 years for killing some freakin fish?? Stupid!

IMO 3 1/2 years is not enough for the total disregard for life and the property of others. This guy didn't steal cause he was hungry or cold, he killed and destroyed because he is an a**. The problem lies in the fact that he will come out on "good behavior" and keep the same attitude that he can do as he pleases with no regard for the rights or property of others.
Slap them on the wrist and they will continue to be the animals they are.

people get less for hurting their kids or committing a more severe crime. Plus i doubt they even have 35K worth of livestock in the store let alone a few tanks. It was a very dumb thing to do but prison time come on he killed fish?? Make him pay them back and give him a fine, why waste tax payer dollars locking him up?

Similar thing happened in Oct. at a Walmart in West Bend.
Some kid dumped a bottle of carb. or fuel injector cleaner into their freshwater system. I think it killed everything.
They caught the kid who did it and he was fined.
What possesses someone to do something like this? I just don't get it.

Hofffer's got hit like that about 3-4 years ago, before the moved across the street.
the big display reef was dead in about 30 minutes

I didn't mean to imply that killin the fish was worse then people hurting their kids or other more severe crimes. I do think if we say "hey it was only fish" and let the guy go on his way we are commiting a crime to society. To me, the 3 1/2 years would be a lesson taught, now more severe things like child abuse....hang them by their toenails and shoot spitwads at them till they are moments from dead. Also no second chances in true child abuse. You lose! These actors live on the fact they might not get caught and if they do get caught they get off easy. That is BS if you ask me. When you do catch them punish hard, chances they have done same type of thing many times before and got off.

Even 10k is generous... If they're claiming $35,800 to an insurance company they're should be put in jail for 3 years right along with the bleach guy

I hope to be going there tomorrow. I want to help support local business.
They get in a new shipment almost every Thursday.

As for the guy who caused the damage. They don't give people time in prison for a 1st offence like this. Something tells me that guy has quite a record already.

I say you fine the hell out of the kid who did this. But wait a second, did anyone else notice that they are claiming the tanks as well as the livestock. Since when does bleach make a tank unuseable? I've always bleached old tanks when switching what I use them for, from reptile to fish. Sounds like someone trying to cash in on a horrible thing.

I talked to the guys - they claimed the wholesale value of the rock, coral, and fish. These guys are sick about this. The insurance company accepted their itimized bill, and now you guys are going to sit here and second guess them? There were some very nice tanks totally blown by this guy. The number seems a bit high to me also, but they did hit a bunch of tanks, more than half the store.

They are reusing the tanks by the way
