Hi I just got a Kent marine 94l tank and love it I have had a 400l cichlid tank for 7 years but it was taking up to much room so had to sell it and get a smaller tank so trying marine

The tank came with a Kent skimmer and when it is on it fills the tank with loads of bubbles if I turn it off the bubbles clear up I have been told that the bubbles will stop when the skimmer brakes in if anyone else has this skimmer is it true and how long will it take it has been running about 6days

I know it is not the best skimmer but it was free with the tank and I was going to just use it for a few months then upgrade I am looking at getting a hydor slim skim or a tunze 9004 can anyone recommend one of them or a different one for same price or less it has to be quite and held on with magnets I hate suction cups

Thanks

SKimmer bubbles are a common problem. You may try putting the outflow into a different chamber of the sump. If you have a skimmer feeding directly into the tank, that's a different problem, and you may just have to dial up and down and see if you can get it calmed down. Amino acids are kind of gunky stuff that life produces in the water, and as the tank itself matures, the bubbles themselves get a little, well, stickier, and start frothing up into the collection chamber. If you don't have much life yet, it's hard to break that skimmer in, but sometimes bathing the skimmer parts in white vinegar (safe in moderation with marine tanks) you can wash off 'manufacturing oils' from the mold which may cling to the plastic and slow down break-in.
