has anyone used kent marine superbuffer? i used it to try to adjust the alk and the corals seem to not like it.

I used it a little, and still have a bunch. I got into using the proper PH 8.2 and havn't had any negatives with it I can see. Be carefull, all of these Buffers are potent. I used to add what Proper said to all of my water and was always wondering why my Alk was through the roof. After I quit using it and only add once in a great while I am fine. Most of my alk control now comes from 2-part. I test my alk everyday to adjust dosage before addition to the tank. Seems to be working fine for the last six months or so.
Don't add directly to the tank if you don't have a sump, premix it.

I've been hitting the tank off and on with SeaChem Reef Builder (alk, not pH). It needs to be completely dissolved before adding it, and add it in an area of high flow, preferably in your sump so it has time to dilute before being sprayed all over your corals. My DI water is a pretty low pH (6.0) so it disolves a little better that way. I dump it into the overflow, it falls into the sump, through the filter socks, out of the sump (over, under, & over the baffles), sucked through the intake to the return pump (Sequence Dart), and then out and into the tank. Pretty diluted by then, don't you think?

I treat with the same potency as people do with kalk, and have had nothing but positive responses w/ good results,honestly.
Where it says to use 1tbsp per 8 oz cup of preferrebly RO/DI, I use usually a half gallon mixed well with just 1/2 tbsp and drip it w/ my 1gallon jeri rig dripper. I have on rare occasion needed to bump the ph a lil higher rather than maintain but I will only add a less diluted mixture immediately durring the night when the pH is naturally starting to decline anyway.
Otherwise I drip a small amount once a week or two on average. I will be a little more frequent if I havent done a waterchange for awhile(3-4weeks).

Kent makes 3 related products in this area. Super Buffer DKH is a pH buffer plus carbonate booster. Kent Marine Buffer is just a buffer without the carbonate, and Kent Coral Builder is Carbonate without the buffer. It all you need is an alkalinity boost then Coral Builder is a better choice.
