Kentlighting's 225gallon Build

Im pretty excited to start this thread, and non the less in the Large Reef Tanks forum.

This is my dream tank I'm building. I have been in the hobby for about 5 years. I started with a pretty gehtto fabulous tank back home In western ny. I had to feel it off a leave for the warm weather of Las Vegas NV when i was given a job as a Lighting Technician for Cirque Du Soleil. When i got out here i was more worried about how quickly I could get a tank up then what I truly wanted.

The Current Tank is a 60 gallon Mix Reef tank drilled by me with a glass holes kit. Its running a custom 48 star LED fixture, 2 MP40 EWs, Neptune Apex system.

New equipment:
225 gallon custom Lee-Mar with dual rear corner overflows
a trigger system ruby 36" elite sump
Vertex IN250 skimmer
Vertex Duo Calcium Reactor
Two little fishes KW300 reactor
In Stand Custom Lee-Mar Frag Tank
Custom Lee-Mar ATO tank
Custom LED fixture for Frag Tank and Fuge
Neptune Moon Lights
24" Custom 24 star LED fixture for Display tank
Reef-flo Super Dart Gold
1 Portal

Equipment To be Transferred:
2 Mp40's
48" custom 48 star LED fixture (this and the 24" fixture will make the display tank lighting system)
Dual BRS Reactor
Jbj Artica Chiller (just as a back up if the Ac ever goes out)
Neptune Apex System
Super Feeder Automatic feeder.

To See the Build Thread on the LED fixture click on this link http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1986417

With the new build I'm gonna re-do the junction box for the LEDs with new connectors. Im gonna use 6 pin XLR connectors to go to the fixture instead of the molex connector, and I'm gonna use ether-con connectors to go from the VDM into the junction box. The only reason is that it will be a cleaner looking box.

I love electronics and automation so I'll be automating as much as possible with failsafes.

I'll post pictures as I can.

Here's the new tank sitting in the shop! And the Ato tank and the frag tank sitting on top of the sump

I'm waiting for my new lens to arrive so when it comes I'll have some better pictures!

Very nice. Love lee-mar tanks! I have a 225G of theirs as well. Excellent size, not to big and not to small! Will tag along to see your progress.

So current design ideas are as follows:

I went with dual corner overflows as I wanted the aquascaping to be two piles of rock with the center open.

Plumbing
Everything will be ran off the super dart gold. I will have a manifold system in place with ball valves to dictate how much flow goes where. The returns from the tank will run directly into the filter sock/ floss area of the sump. The in stand frag tank will run into the fuge with the flow originating from the super dart.

Thoughts?

Im thinking about solenoids. Because I have one pump running everything I was thinking maybe having solenoids to be able to close various items down and still allow flow to other things, such as closing down the gfo carbon reactors if I'm dosing something (remember Im and electronics guy if I can automate it I will) or turn off the main tank when I'm doing a feed cycle. Now i realize that it will increase the head pressure and the water will want to go to other places how can i overcome that? i solenoid controlled return line to the sump that opens up when others close?

Things that will be feed from the one pump as of now:

Reeflo -> Display tank Tank (2 returns)
Reeflo -> In Stand Frag Tank
Reeflo -> GFO -> Carbon
Reeflo -> Chiller (could be tagged onto the gfo/carbon line)
Reeflo -> Room for expansion

I've never run a calcium reactor before, do they need a pump to feed water into them? I know they have a circulation pump but that doesn't create a syphon does it? If it needs a pump then can I...

Reeflo -> Calcium Reactor (as with everything it would have a ball valve to dial down the flow as needed

Also Im thinking of spending the extra little bit of money and going with the Avast KW Reactor vs the two Little fishies one. I like the fact the stirring is constant and not driven by water pressure with the ATO pump is running.

Thoughts?

New Lens (nikon 50mm 1.8) Should be here today I hopefully will get some better pics of the Tank and stand up (I'm such a proud father of this baby :) )

Current Tank Shot, when I moved a few months back from apartment to this house the tangs decided it would be a good time to stop being friends. As you can see, it's time for a bigger space so I can start buying frags again.

You only have the sailfin and yellow tang? Are they still in the same tank?

Very nice tank, full and a lot of life in it. Like the torch!!

here are some pics!

This is Will being all happy about taking his tank home!

This is everyone else wondering wondering what the world did they get themselves into! lol

This is Will laughing after telling him that we were going to drive like maniacs so that his tank breaks on the way to his house!

The tank is very strong! so now we have to carry it up this flight of stairs.

And then this flight of stairs!

And finally this flight of stairs!

We had to stand the tank up on the side midway up the stairs to make the turn and then lay it back down. And like the strong men we are (and woman!), we push it up the stairs and then slide it around the corner and into the living room.

I drilled out the holes for where the bulkheads will go, we mounted the tank onto the stand and placed on the canopy.

We all laughed and had a good time!

Will was in amazement of his new tank.

and this is the last view that i will ever see of this tank!!!!! (as we all leave going down the stairs!)
