Kenya Tree Clean-Up

My Kenya Tree population has gradually been getting out of control. They do the natural fragging where pieces fall off and just attatch wherever they like.

Well, they don't always attach in good spots and some are blocking light, bothering other coral, etc.

Now I just learned that Kenyas have toxins? So, I'm kind of scared to just yank them off or move them around. Is it dangerous to me or the tank?

I'd be wearing gloves, and just gently pulling them off/out of the sand; give them to LFS.
Would they pollute the tank at all?

Is it on the same level as zoas and polyps

I thin mine out all the time with no problems. I'm not saying you shouldn't wear gloves but I never have. Be sure to get it all otherwise if you leave a small piece it will grow back.

I have these giant shoulder length yellow gloves that I wear anyway.

They're just everywhere... affecting a ton of other coral, that won't open b/c these are in the way.

I still want a few in the tank, but not this much.

I too pull them out when ever I see them pop up. I have never had an issue with them affecting others in the tank. If you don't get every last piece of it it will grow back. I have ones that pop up weeks after I think I had gotten them all. Good luck they are stubborn.

How does it drop? I've had one for 3 years and it's steadily grown. Recently it's all closed up but little balls are dropping. Is it reproducing?

Craigslist is your friend! New ppl like me will take your extra trees I just picked up 5 -6 nice ones! Tank bred is the best! I have a new tank with nothing just a few other corals and lots of open space so these are my first corals. Hopefully they grow up and I can pass them along later to someone else new!

you aren't kidding.

i had a small one i accidentally removed while pulling some bubble algae off a rock. i went and tossed it in the QT tank and it has since stuck to the floor.

so what did i notice yesterday growing out of the same hole in the rock, but another tiny little tree right where the old one had been. it really looked like i had gotten him down the "root" when i removed him originally, but i guess there was plenty left to pop up another tree.

thankfully the bubble algae isn't back (yet) so may he can enjoy his anchor point for now.

you can get the shoulder high gloves at harbor freight for 6 bucks. They are pretty thick though so they dont give you much dexterity
