Kenya Tree Coral Question

Do you think a kenya tree coral is a good soft coral to start off with. I have some lps, mushrooms and zoo's. I have 4x65w pc's over a standard 55g and all my corals are doing great. Thanks. O yeah and what about a Derasa clam. I'm currently setting up a Phytoplankton culture. Would this be able to sustain them?

i will say this about the kenya tree... you beter like it a lot if you get it.... it will rapidly multiply and never go away....i would say that it is a hardy coral, but i would not get it IMO. It gets out of control too quickly....

haha...you wont need to frag it.... it will frag itself...thats why i said that it gets out of control very quickly...it seems to "seed" its self around the aquarium...at least in my case. As far as the clam, i dont think you would have enough light....but i am no expert...i just know i would not feel comfortable having clams under anything except for metal halides....not that it cant be done... But, i just dont think that 260 watts of pc light over a 55 will cut it... JMO

Before you know it, you'll have yourself a "forrest" of trees :)
It is a good filler coral but as stated it will get out of control. I have it everywhere. And wouldn't you know, that's the one coral my butterflies will not touch :)

The Kenya trees will constrict thier tips off,and then float around the tank. They always seem to land where you either can't get to them,or attach before you can get them.I just recently got rid of mine after finding out the hard way.I now have several frags I am growing out to trade someone. As for leathers, you might want to start with a Colt. They grow fast, are hardy and pretty easy to care for. And,they do not reproduce like the Kenya tree.

With the Kenya Tree, just be careful where you put it. After a few months my small frag grew to 8 inches and started to drop off new ones every other week. They will fall into crevices and will get blown around. Just be smart where you place it in your tank and make sure you really like the coral :) I did, so it didn't bother me, plus I traded a lot of the frags to the LFS.
