I've had my Kenya tree for about a month and when i got it it was growing crooked. I positioned it on the sand in a low flow area and it has straightened up all by it's self. Maybe it has something to do with lighting. I've only been at this for 5 months so i'm still learning. Hope this helps
The kenya tree is going to grow toward the light (up). My first tree was growing on the side of a rock, I turned that rock on end so the coral was on top and the trunk was clearly pointed toward the right side of the tank. Now w/rock in same position the tree is growing up.
Be careful moving the kenya tree around in the tank though because you will soon have kenya trees growing all over the tank.
As previously stated, they will grow toward the light and are effected my current. They are also effected by the light intensity and feeding. Heavily feed they will keep more compact, often retracting at night into a small tight clump.
I love the looks of Kenya trees in a reef tank. The are dramatic as they sway with the current. I have just converted my tank to mainly Kenya trees. They are a lot easier to keep than SPS and I think can be just as dramatic and beautiful. IMHO
