Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

I so disagree with that statement. Kessil has not come close to honoring their customers with updates and fixes.

They are just being extremely slow about it. If I had purchased this light a year ago, I'd feel the same as you. The newest beta seems to be more or less perfect from a firmware standpoint. The app can still use work, but at least the light is reliable now.

I don't add any red/green currently, but when I did I was always able to notice the subtle separation. Don't get me wrong, it's exponentially better than anything else out there, but it still exists. Based on BRS's tests, the diffusion lenses 100% eliminate it and smooth out the color blending and hot spots. I can't wait to get them!

I'm thinking of trying them out too.

I have minor diffusions. Very slight softness to the light and drops par a little. I pulled them after a few days. Not needed in my tank.

Didn't like the effect? I find the shimmer on the bare lights to be a bit too much and am hoping the slight diffusers calm it down a bit.

With a massive loss of PAR

I like the shimmer. The minors definitely toned down the shimmer.

A massive loss of unneeded PAR in my case. I mean if I give you half of my 10lb steak there's still too much steak on my plate lol.

BRS did a good video on them.

I may still use them. The 190 will have 3 and I may use them to spread it out a little.

I tried the major and minor lenses. I settled with the minors because the shimmer was tolerable.

If anyone is interested in buying the majors used, let me know. They're not difficult/expensive to ship.

Yep, watched it and they weren't really thrilled with them. If you have to double the out for same PAR a lot of wasted energy for minor benefit.

... What video did you watch? The color blending and shimmer were both improved and they chose to put them on the BRS 160...

The only thing they didn't find to be true about them is that spread is improved.

Woohoo! Thanks to Franco@Kessil, got all 3 of my light linked by direct connection!

1 of the things we tried was not using numbers n letters in the password. Other was turning off all other wifi enabled devices nearby. So all my Ecotech and AI devices.

I'm going to try connecting to my wifi router next!

Got the new AP700 light from J&L in Burnaby, got it hooked up and.........it works!!!!!
Did it through wifi, it follows the program, clouds roll in smooth, lightning storms are perfect, transition is flawless, I am so ridiculously happy and releaved. They charged me for the light but I will get reimbursed on it. It was definitely the one light having an issue with its wifi internal router, wouldn't communicate properly with the other light for some reason. I updated the firmware on it before I installed it, took the old light down, reset the app while both lights were flashing the wifi signal, programmed as usual and bam there it was. So the beta works, the 3.4 firmware (I believe it is) works. Been running three days now no issues so far. The wifi hook up worked so I didn't even bother trying the connect direct. So much easier to pop into the programming and fiddle around with things when you don't have to switch from the wifi signals.

I need to call Franco to let him know it worked. I'm sure he will be happy to not have to try and figure out my malfunctioning light anymore. Now if I could just get my Zoas to open up, don't know what the problem is, I think I'm going to dip them. Any tips?

That's really great to hear. As for your Zoas, what light intensity are you running? I got 2 new Zoa frags recently and they both opened up the next day. I am running 50% max intensity in acclimation mode start to at 50% for 7 days.

Question guys, I have the AP700 and I usually run it most of the time towards the white/ sun looking color, lighter blues on the color wheel. I have a mixed reef.
I see that a lot of people and most of fish stores run their coral tanks on very blue light setting. Is the deep blue color more beneficial to the corals? Less algae? How do you guys run yours on your mixed reef?

Well I pulled the trigger on an AP700, hope to get it early January. I will be using it over a 66 gallon mixed reef (32x24x20). I went with this light because I wanted to be able to grow whatever I wanted, with the ability automate as well. Too, I think this light just looks good.
Originally I thought I might slide by with a single a360 but decided against it. I have "under bought" before only to upgrade later. I'm excited!

Seems that corals do as well if not better with blues. Whites seem to only stimulate algae. Used more for aesthetics.

Cool, I changed my whole lighting cycle to more of the bluer colors on the wheel, curious if the corals will color better or grow faster. I usually have to clean the glass every other day, let's see if this will change after the blue lights

They were open for the first week then stopped opening. Haven't opened in over 7-10 days.
