Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

I have the 2-t5’s as well but only fun ap700 at 45%. T5 on for 4 hrs. Trying to color up some nems so will see what f t5 adds anything to mix

Update on my ap700 and maybe something that may help others. I was so cautious about keeping the lights set low and increase intensity super slowly that I was actually harming my corals. I raised the lighting and have increased the intensity about 1%each day from 35% and I'm sitting at 55% now. I have noticed that my beach bum had paled and browned out when I was really paranoid about intensity. Now since changing intensity the corals are starting to really take off and coloration has really increased. Yellows and oranges are coming out on the beach bum finally. I will add that too fast of increase will burn corals and you need to watch your corals. The learning curve is crazy with led that I think that is why people change back to t5 or mh. I do not have experience with radions but the ap700 will grow corals you just have to learn to not change things constantly and go slower than you would think.

I find that if you just think of your AP700 as-if it were MH and behave accordingly everything works out great. I keep mine at 70% for 8 hours a day with 4 hours of added T5. I stopped acclimating corals to the light and just stick them where I want them. Works out great.

This is true for most things reef.

Especially for lighting, trying out a light for 3 months is not going to tell you if the light is good or not. Your corals are going to stress out because it is a different type of light and will most likely look like crap for a while. Give them time to adapt and most will.

Has anyone changed from A360WE to AP700
I decided to go for a AP700 instead of the 2x A360WE over my 2ft Cube
I put it up last night and the water seemed not as crisp as the 2xA360WE
Anyone experienced this?

I went from 4 360s to 2 ap700 over 5ft tank. Massive improvement especially bottom half. Did extensive testing with PAR meter and 1 700 is about 2.5 360s.

As for clarity , zero problems and looks even better.

Thor2j: do you notice more "punch" in the ap700 to get to the bottom? I remember when the 360's were exposed for not having enough punch to get down in a 24-30 inch tank? A good friend of mine, removed his for that reason. So I'm curious if you notice any difference between the two. Since you have operated both.

Could some of
You guys post up your updated light schedules
I have looked back through all the pages but was just curious to see any tweaks that you may have done that improved coloration and growth
Have a mixed LPS and mainly SPS system

I have mine at the third blue down from midline and currently at 56% and I think for 8 hours with 1.5 hour ramp up and down each. They sit at 12 inches above water line and 2 units over 48"x 24" x 24" 120 gallon sps dominant tank. I am raising intensity slowly and I'm shooting for around 70%. I do not have a par meter so my end goal may end up lower depending on how the corals react.

The AP700 is not just 2x360s. A single puck on the AP700 is not the same as a 360we, those comparisons really need to stop. The AP700 has a unique cluster AND a high efficiency reflector. The result is a far more powerful light that penetrates must deeper (to answer your question).

I am running the AP700's on a 24"tall reef tank that is 34" front to back. I placed them about 9" off the top of the water. They can be lowered slightly or of course raised up for a wider spread. I would see no problem running them on a 30" H SPS tank. I am currently running them at about 50% intensity at mid day+, with a ramp up period before and ramp down afterwards. Over time, I plan to ramp up the intensity a bit more.

I never said it was the same as 2 360's. I only asked if they had more punch to get to the bottom. I only referenced the use of them on a friends tank to shine light on the point I had seen this firsthand. Not repeating what others say.

Thank you for your input and experience.

Thanks Reefer31

Corey,
To answer your question, yes, much better light penetration to the bottom was the biggest difference. I can't remember the numbers but with similar PAR at the top, it was about 40% more PAR on the bottom of my 23" tank with the AP700s vs the 360s.

Just setup my ap700 and the android app is flawless. I configured it to run thru my router.Tank still cycling but cant wait to test it with livestock.
