Kessil AP 700 Owners Gather Here!

36"W, 34"Deep.

If I run 3 Radion G4 Pro's I should get 36" x 24" coverage per module...

9 puck coverage would be great but holy hell batman in Canada that's over 5G's lol

Either way, it'l take (3) AP700 or (3) G4 Pro's to accomplish this.

You originally wrote that you had a 6.5' tank...

So you need 1 AP700 (mounted regular) or 2 XR30w Pros (mounted front-to-back). You will get better coverage from the Radions in your case, unless you do decide to go with 2 x AP700. You have a weird sized tank, so it doesn't fall into the normal size pattern I was writing about before.

My apologies, Depth can be assumed as width as well, I meant actual depth.

6.5"L x 36"W x 34"deep = height.

I always screw up explaining tank dimensions lol

420 gallons of glory.

well LA DE DA! at 5-7" of height from the top of the tank I can achieve a 24" x 36" footprint.

Now I have to figure out the Ecotech height to achieve 24" x 36"

This could be a big deciding factor.

I think he means 6.5' long tank. 36" front to back, 34" tall.

He would need 3 at the minimum for wall to wall sps

Yeah you would need 3x of either light, though like I said the Radions are going to barely cover that width and you may be better off going with 6 x XR15W instead (if you want Radions).

My feeling is for a well covered tank you will need at least 3 (AP700) and 4-5 (XR30).

If it is 36" front to back I would install thee AP700s mounted perpendicular to the tank event 2' or so. That will give you hands down the best coverage. You won't have to worry about any dimm areas lol!

I'm definitely digging the AP700 only being 5-7" from the top of the tank to get 24" x 36" coverage per fixture.

That's kind of what I'm thinking.

FROM THE WINDOOOOOOOOOOWS TO THE WALLLLLLLLLS LET THE SPS CRAWWWWWWWLLLLLLLL

lol sorry...Lil Jon moment.

I have 2 AP700s on my one tank and radion pros on the other. I have way more problems with reeflink then with the AP700s. I have 0 problems with the AP700s on beta.

Do you guys feel the software issue is somewhat overblown? Is the likely hood it'l glitch on me high?

They have beta firmware out now that is perfect. No idea why they haven't released it as an official release.

But even the "buggy" firmware is kind of overblown. Really the worst thing that tends to happen is that the timer on the light drifts over time. That was fixed in the new beta too, but it's not really a big deal even on the old lights because you can fix it by just connecting to the light via the app.

But, anyway, it's easy to get into the beta program and just to update to the newest beta and you have a perfectly stable light. Their app is still kind of slow, but it ultimately does what it needs to do. I mean once your light is set it is set.

Good to know.

These are currently moving to the front of the pack.

I'm still super curious about the Orpheks...I just wish they had a better setup for support and distribution.

This is the spacing I will be using for my new tank, 1 AP700 every 24", mounted from front to back. The tank is 120" x 36 x 30", so similar footprint to yours.

Pretty sure the Ecotech's were designed to cover a square area, not a rectangle. Plus, you have to keep in mind the PAR loss from raising the Ecotech's so high to get the coverage. The Kessil's were made to cover 24x36 vs the 24x24 of the Radions. I'm not trying to slam the Radions either. Great light, but for the $, I went with the 2 AP700's(well, one in hand, one in the future lol!) vs 3 Radions.

Kessil ought to have the ability to control each puck separately so you can get a cool east to west sunrise and sunset effect. I know it's possible because in the old buggy firmware weird things would happen like a single puck going on while the other was off when playing with the moon lights manually.

I'm lucky enough to be relatively close to Kessil and have met and talked to some when they visit a local store to demo or drop of samples of new stuff (e.g. The A80 which I saw months before they were released)

Sunrise and sunset features were thought of and were designed into the AP but were not implemented. They tried it on their office tank.

From what I understand, it's not as versatile as the AI system. And they were meant only for tanks that have the lights orientated lengthwise.

They have a number of things upcoming but nothing new in the AP700. Maybe in the AP line. Don't ask. I can't say. ;)

That would be cool, the only LED I know of that did something like that was the Vertex Illumina
