I am currently new to salt water reef tanks, and currently have a JBJ 30 RL Rimless, and debating which two LED lights I should buy. What are your thoughts?

The deep blue is to blue IMO !

Sky blue to more natural look and maybe adding ocean blue would be a better combo.

Marine Depot had a nice comparison for the 150 lights and I saw some good videos on the U-tube. I have the Sky Blue it is more white.

What do you want to keep in the tank is an important thing to consider...that would help with the recommendation

Since I am still fairly new, I would go with the easy stuff for now, such as mushrooms, zoos, frogspawns, etc etc, but my goal is to have SPS coral and a very nice clam, always loved those things

I've been reading a bit more on the 350w, and a lot of people prefer that over 2x 150w...

the size of the tank is

23.6" x 19.7" x 16.5" (60 cm x 50 cm x 42cm )

Money really is not a huge issue, I would prefer to get the best option now, instead of upgrading later. Would you all agree that going 1 Kessil 350w is better than 2x 150s? Again, my main goal is to have SPS coral and 1-2 purple clams

Yea I have the 350w and keep sps and clam

Since you are up your budget you could also look into the Kessil 360 it is controllable by a third party controller Apex, Reef Angel, Proflilux and Digtial Aquatics. They are not much more than the 350W and it will grow with you and be easier to sell in the future.

Kessil 150 lighting help!

Kessil 150 lighting help!

I have a 36 gallon Bow-front reef tank. My tank dimensions are 30"L x 15"W x 21"H. I`m looking at these fixtures, I like the 150`s. How many would you recommend for my tank? Or would you recommend something else? I`m currently running 2 30" T5HO dual lamp fixtures. Along with the fixtures I`m running ATI bulbs also. I currently have softies, mushrooms, LPS, an lastly a RBTA. My livestock are 2 false percula clownfish, Saddle back toby puffer, Fire shrimp, Scarlet Skunk cleaner shrimp an the clean up crew of hermits. Also I know the puffer is not reef safe. Though from over a year, with a coral filled tank she's not a problem. Though I cant keep snails, she loves them! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Ryan

20k deep ocean blue x2
Your corals will look amazing

Horrible idea. The deep ocean blue is not a 20k it is a pure 450nm with a few 420nm and 470nm mixed in. Basically it is an actinic blend, there isn't a single white LED in it. Your tank will look very unnatural under that.

The 150's are pretty powerful I had one shinning on my yuma in my 120 gallon tank and it caused it to move and I got another baby.

Yeah I thought so too. Looking an thinking about the differences as I glance, at these beautiful ATI bulbs I've got over my reef system! Solid 20k would be to dark like you suggest. I would run this setup Sky Blue(10000k)/Ocean Blue(15000k) or 2 Ocean Blue(15000k)s. Or maybe a Ocean Blue(15000k)/Deep Ocean Blue? Though I`m leaning towards the 10000k/15000k mixture. ATI Coral Plus 15000k bulbs are amazing along with there others. So I`m going for the 10000k-15000k range, since a 20000k is typically for colors correct?

Those sound like good results for penetration, etc. I've heard nothing but good things about the 150`s. My lfs runs all leds an Kessils above the Coral/frag tanks an the tanks are flawless!

A true 20000k bulb is not a dark color. It is a blue-white. Take a look at a 20k Radium run on an M80 ballast and you'll see what I mean. It is a gorgeous color. Or get a starfinder app and look at the star Sirius with binoculars, that's a 20000k (Well, Sirius is 25000k, but it's a true blackbody radiator, unlike our light sources, so closer to 20000k than anything we can replicate). A coral plus is marketed as a 15000k, but really its spectral output is nothing similar. It uses specific phosphors to give specific color peaks that result in a color temperature that to the human eye looks similar to the whitish blue of a 15000k, but still does not replicate it. The Kessil Deep Ocean Blue used to be marketed as a 20000k, now it is marketed as an actinic blend, because it is far too blue to be measured on the kelvin color temperature scale (50000k, maybe?). Now, I'm not saying that not being true to a blackbody radiator is a bad thing, just that you can't put too much confidence in a kelvin color for anything beyond a blackbody radiator. It is simply a marketing professional looking at the bulb and saying "Yeah, it looks like this color, slap it on the box and start shipping." A perfect example is the Kessil Deep Ocean Blue, it was originally marketed as a 20000k, until they realized it was nothing at all similar to a 20000k, and they changed it to "Actinic Special Blend".

On that setup I'd prefer 2 150s personally because it will reduce some of the shadowing. Intensity isn't an issue for that size of tank.
