This was the interim scape with resin rocks. Due to the size of my tank, i had to cut them up and piece to form the desired scape. After this one, i did some more refinements when i took them out for the algae removal.

Latest FTS taken today. I have since gone bare bottom. Cant wait for it to be covered in coraline. I will keep the back and sides clean.

Tank looks great now (though I do miss the sand). Good riddance algae. Thanks for sharing updated pics and letting us know how you did it (I'd still say the high TDS RO water and probably overfeeding were what were causing it?).

There shouldn't be silicates leaching in any significant quantity from aragonite sand. Now if you used playground sand which is silicate, then maybe, but that sand looks like aragonite to me? (did it fizz/dissolve in vinegar?).

Hi, it was totally the high TDS water i guess. Cause at that point i had just a few nano gobies and was feeding barely 10 pellets a day. I did water change every week. When the algae bloom came, i changed even more frequently. What a mistake with the water. It is so funny now when i think about it.

The yellow tang and azures were added very recently after i have gotten rid of all the algae.
You are right that the sand is arogonite. I soaked the sand in DI mixed with H202 and it fizzles. Got the sand from a fellow reefer. I do like the sand look too.

Thanks for reading my thread.

Updates:
Replaced Tunze 6040 with Maxspect Gyre 130. Absolutely love it. It pushes massive amount of water and creates awesome flow throughout the entire tank.
Detritus i never knew exist got kicked up during the first 10mins of use. Excellent product for my tank size.

Strange thing. Nutrient level is low but been fighting this algae. I have added a total of 18 Astrea snails. Hopefully they can clear this quickly.

I love the minimalist aquascaping in your tank. It really emphasizes the corals.

Is the algae issue something you have been dealing with all along, or is this a new problem?

I really like the look of the aquascape.

Could the resin rocks be leaching phosphate and fueling the algae?

tank looks great, im surprised the tang police havnt blown you up though...

I sold the tang away:fun2: . Even at 1.5inch, the poop is flying all over my tank and creating a mess. Yup, so i am cleared. Not guilty. :bounce3:

Thank you both for the kind compliments.

I had a different type of algae before. The green and stiff type in one of the pictures. That was mainly due to my own oversight . Read the tds value wrongly and used very nutrient rich water for wc. I have since corrected and done massive wc.

The current algae is quite easy to rid off. Just that i will need more spiny snails and probably the help of an emerald crab. Not quite certain of the cause as i have only a few damsels that i feed 2 times daily with tdo pellets. Sometimes i give them mysis when i feed my supersun corals and duncans.

Will be buying more snails today when the shipment is in. Likely to make a total of 30.

wish me luck!

good to hear, i didnt want to be that guy! tank looks great otherwise i like the style a lot

In replacement of my yellow tang for algae control, i have added 20 spiny star astraea snails(total 28) and 2 emerald crabs. It is very effective and they do not contribute as much poop as a tang. My rocks are all cleaned of algae and i am very happy with the result.
I will be giving away 20 of the snails and keeping just 8 since i don't have enough food for all of them anymore.
