Kidninja's 12 Gallon JBJ Nano Cube DX

Hey, so I have been in the reefing scene for a couple of years so I decided to set up a JBJ 12 Gallon Nano Cube because my original tank was pretty much going downhill. I pretty much wanted to keep everything stock, with as little upgrades as possible.

So enjoy my tank, all comments appreciated, any suggestions, and any questions just ask. ENJOY!

My JBJ Nano Cube 12 DX
Hardware:
JBJ Nano Cube 12DX
Stock lighting: 2x24 PC 50/50
Upgraded stock pump to Maxi-Jet 900
Upgraded stock duckbill to Hydor-Flo
Added additional powerhead to create more random flow
Chamber 1 - Heater
Chamber 2 - Empty (not really too sure what i should put)
Chamber 3 - Maxi-Jet 900

I also have a 12gal nano reef set up which ive had for abou 2 yrs, i noticed you said you upgraded your pump and duck bill from the stock one I have no clue what that means but should i do that haha. Also how'd you get the pictures to come out so clear through the glass i cant ever get mine to do that.

lol, well the stock pump in the rare chamber was way too weak, so i upgraded it to a Maxi-jet 900, but now i sort of think its just a bit too strong so i might go downgrade to a maxi-jet 600.

The duckbill (the part on the top right where the water pumps out into the main tank):

i replaced that because the flow was only pointing in 1 direction, with the hydor-flo, there is more flow through out the tank as it moves 360 degrees. highly recommended in my opinion

Those poor fish need a slow zone. Too much flow. Not much fun swimming at high speed constantly. Short life span.

I disagree.

I have exactly the same tank and for flow I have a MJ1200 with spraybar for return and a koralia nano, I still think it's not enough sometimes.

OP -I'm very interested in the hydor-flo, does it move on its own or is it electric?

it moves completely on its own. just attaches to the tank and thats it, very very easy installation. as for my fish, they have plent of places to rest in the tank. there are also many dead spots in the tank so they go there sometimes and sleeping is not a problem as well. for some reason the clown seems to enjoy the flow alott

I also disagree with others about flow.

It's all about what type of flow you have and where it's pointed. You want turbulent, random mass-flow. My 14g Biocube has the stock return pump (137gph, roughly) and I'm running two Koralia Nano pumps as well, this brings my flow up to somewhere around 620gph total overall flow. My fish (2 ocellaris clowns, 1 yellow watchman goby) are all acting normally, in fact, the clowns hosting and other 'wild' behaviors have improved a great deal - probably very similar to the OP's experience.

Also to the OP: are you using the stock lighting? Considered moving to an LED array?

i am currently using the stock lighting, for some reason i've always done realllly well with power compacts. i tried t5's and i didnt really like it. for some reason nothing ever grew under t5's but everything i put under pc's grows and looks awesome
