Killed part of a Galaxia - what to do?

Yesterday my sump pump failed procrastination got the better of me (I never drilled an anti sipohn hole for the return). My Galexia (about 5x7in) was 1/3 out of the water for who knows how long being baked by the lights. Today it is clear most of the tissue is gone in those areas with some string white filaments like stuff flapping in the current. I have some SPS in there too. What should I do (if anything)? Siphon it off, take it out of the tank? Am I running any risks here?

I would probably just break off the parts that you think are dead. Just so that you don't pollute the tank. The living parts will just go on as usual and will eventually regrow...

OK, I siphoned off most off the dead tissue. It would be hard to "break off" the dead parts because the coral is like a big ball with tons of little spikes off it that the polyps extend from. I can break off or grind these spikes off so the surface is flat I guess (but it's not like I can just break off a piece like an Acro). Will that help the coral re-grow or should I just leave the denuded Calcium skeleton as is with all the protrusions?

IPT - if you've siphoned all of the dead tissue off, you should be ok. The tissue will regrow in the dead areas. If I were you, I'd leave it alone and let the edges heal up. Galaxia are pretty tough.

Usually, I use one of those coral fragging sheer type of 'clippers' and it cuts right through the dead stuff. I rarely see new tissue growth over the old skeletons but rather new skeletons being made. If you siphon off too, it should be fine. I think what you did is a-ok! The important thing is that dead tissue isn't in your system.

I'll see what it does. Maybe I'll snip of the spikes if it doesn't seem to be recovering.
