Killer Sebae Clown

Ok everyone,

I have a green carpet ( S. Haddoni ) and a Sebae clown. I have had the carpet around 5-6 months and the clown around 4-5 months. So recently I had my bi color blenny, Yellow watchman gobie, candycane pistol shrimp, and a med powder brown tang all disappear. So a few weeks ago ( because of my multiple losses in my tank ), I decided to purchase a pearly headed jawfish. Still no clue at this time as to where my missing fish have gone. After the acclimation processes, I turned off the lights and placed the fish into the tank. What happened next hit me totally unexpectedly. My sebae clown swims over grabs the jawfish in his mouth, then proceeds to drag him back to the anemone and slams my jawfish into the anemone. Of course I get the usual emotion of wow that was a 20 dollar fish that my anemone is digesting at this very moment. On the other hand I was thinking that has to be the most single handed COOLEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MIY LIFE. Well since our incident, a few things have changed. My cown has been named "Thug" and we have taught him to take his anger out on large pieces of shrimp. so once every three days he takes a shrimp 3 times larger than him to his anemone. I have also seen him slam my true perc's in the anemone of course they are immune to this. Well figured this would be a great story to share.

Ok everyone I don't have a video camera, but I will try to find somebody who will give me a loaner. Also instead of using a $20 dollar fish I will use a 10 cent feeder goldfish.This has aready been done in my tank, and no I won't tell you how it ended only video footage will do it any justice.

I didn't know this topic would raise so many eyebrows, but since it has I will work on trying to tape it.

Ok everyone I got some video ( good news and bad ). For starters the video's are being processed by my sweet and very cool wife. we have video of him trying to grab fish but he was a little intimdated by their size. Ok good news, I do have a very good video of him grabbing a full shrimp 3 times larger than himself ( or should I say Herself being she is the dominate and only sebae). She slams the shrimp so hard into the anemone that it becomes shocked and shrinks almost 1/4 of its size. As soon as my wife ( the very cool computer guru ) can get the movie link on here. Ricordiaking I'm glad to make your day and hope to keep everyone posted with really cool stuff that goes on in my tank.

Thats awesome, I started feeding my anemone whole shrimp when she hit about 4 solid inch's. My sebea started coming right up to my hand when I was feeding her. So on day I let go of the shrimp and the sebea grabbed it. The clown struggled at first and dragged it over to the anemone. ( Not to sound corny) But as they say the rest was history. Be wary though if the clown can muscle a full shrimp she can very well grab fish.

I am waiting for my LFS to get another sebea clown so that I can have two in this tank. The one I have is very young, so I am sure I will not have a problem with then getting along. I have a maroon clown in my other tank, along with a BTA, flower anemone and an orange flower anemone. I have had those for a little over a year now, but the carpet and sebea are new, only had them for 6 days now.

Well we are still working on the movie thing I'm computer stupid. So I'm at the mercy of my lovely wife ( In words when she gets time) LOL. I can help teach everyone how to teach their clowns to feed their anemone. I have done it with a maroon clown in a bubble and now a sebea in a carpet. Realy its easy. I'm not the type of person who develop's habits but if you can, clown's are super smart and they understand and catch on quickly. In my next post I will give advice ( only from personal experience of course ) on how to teach them to do this . All I'm asking is for some one on this post to say they want to learn. So say yes I want to learn I you want me help out a little.

I'd like to learn. Anything to give me an edge on the clowns. I have some clowns and a 8 inch bta and the clowns refuse to even go near it.

Okay thanks Jakaru,
I started with a shrimp that was maybe 1/2 the size of my clown, I did not use any tools or a shrimp that was larger than my clown. I used table shrimp. I also used my hand when I fed my anemone. My clown could see me walking up to the tank durring feeding time. I also used a blue Solo cup. It doesn't matter the color of the cup, more so, that they asssociate the color cup with food ( pavlov's law ) LOL. After less than 3 weeks the clown started grabbing the shrimp from my fingers ( maybe because she was hungry ). It is in a clown to know that her anemone is hungry. She started pulling the shrimp out of my hand. After that she started grabbing the shrimp out of my hand and taking it right to the anemone. She fed her anemone If you put 2 pieces of shrimp in though she will feed th anemone first and thenn eat the other herself.

hmm consitancy. My clowns are always interested when I'm doing something around the tank. and if I put my hand in will come and investigate and get close. If I'm feeding my bta and let the food go they will come over and nip/drag a short ways but always let go. Only been doing this for a little while but I give my clowns a few tugs before I feed so maybe they will actually learn this from what I'm doing.
