killer SEIO's?

eventually i want to keep a mandarin, and some firefish. but i don't want my seio intake killing my fish. should i just use the rotator? or should i do a closed loop with less flow?

I found so 1/4 inch foam at Walmart that is used for air fiilters. I cut a 1 1/2 inch strip of the foam, wrapped it around the Seio about 3 times, took it off and sowed the ends down to keep it in the correct shape. The extra foam seems to diffuse the incoming stream enough that fish don't get sucked in. Every day or two, I turn off the powerhead and rinse out the foam. Since the foam is on the outside of the powerhead, its really easy to side it off and rinse it, but the foam does act as a physical filter, so it needs to be cleaned regularly.

I have a mandarin in my 75 that had two SEIO 620's ( I just recently move one of them to my 58 -- wanted more flow in my
58) The SEIO's have been in there for over a year now, and never had an issue. They are not covered at all.

If you have any low flow areas in your tank the mandarin will most likely hang out there. I had a seahorse that did well for quite some time in my reef tank with a few powerheads (SEIOS) and an 1100 gph on my return.

I have had 2 purple fire fish in my 120 with 2 Sieo 1100 and have never had a problem. They run wide open - tunze style.

My Seios have never harmed my mandarin or shrimp. To bad I can't say the same for my old Maxi-jet's

Im running over 60x turnover with tunze's and seios with no problems. Im keeping a firefish, a purple firefish and i plan on keeping a mandarin when the tank matures. the fish dont seem to mind the flow at all

ok, good. cause i didn't want to do a closed loop. too expensive for less flow in total. i will make sure there is a low flow area for my mandarin and firefish(though apparently it's not a problem :))

thanks everyone.

also, if anyone would like to post pics of there SEIO mounts i'd greatly appreciate it :)

I have Seios running uncovered with two Mandarins and a Scooter Blenny also in my tank, with not problems...with them. I did have to place the cover back on the Seio 1100, though, because there were a few mishaps with some of the starfish in my reef. Still, I don't think that this would ever have endangered the Mandarins.
