Killing marine ich while in cyst form?

Are there any recommended ways to kill marine ich after it has dropped off the fish forms a cysts.

Reason for my question is when receiving live rock, macro or other non coral non fish objects from tanks that may have ich. Is there a way to kill the parasite off the rock or algae without killing the bacteria on the rock or the algae itself?

Outside of the 10 week fallow period.

Bleach and formaldehyde are the only things that will kill cysts. Fresh water and air drying isn't even very successful.

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread, but that's scary to think the net you used to scoop the ich infected fish or the cleaning equipment you used to clean the infected tank even soaking in fresh water or drying it is not enough and can reinfect the tank after going fish less..? Is bleach alone not enough and how can it survive even after drying out for several weeks?

I was referring to erradication in a fast manner, not a 7 week drying period. There are many labratory studies on viable dry cysts. The two only biocides to immediately destroy the cysts will also destroy all other life on rock.

This is why separate nets, equipment are so imo important for qt and display.

Its the little details like this that convince me that many/most failures to eradicate ich are due to hobbyist error.

I have since tried in the last few months to practice sterilizing the accessories that is expose to ich.. At this point I don't have separate accessories for QT, but will invest in the future. Is it still safe to soak those accessories in fresh water and or dry it for weeks at a time?

I would suggest mixing a bleach solution, 1 cup per gallon. soak 5 minutes, rinse then air dry till next use.

Not sure I'd trust peroxide. Its a great antiseptic for bacteria purposes but for cysts I personally would not trust. The reason I say this is because I use a peroxide teat dip on cows, and often they will get a form of herpies on their teats. Peroxide will not prevent it from spreading to other cows so a chlorine based dip is required. I know its comparing to a virus on cows but just pointing out that chlorine is very broad spectrum at killing things.
