Kinda new to this... (Q? - Angler & Frogfish)

Hello, I'm not new to Marine fish, however, i'm new to the Angler & Frogfish. I love anything that is odd and bazar hence all the Mantises.

My question is that i'd like to get more then one Angler & Frogfish. Particularly of the species of 'Frogfish - Zebra (Antennarius striatus)', Shaggy angler (A. hispidus) & the Red/Orange Angler (A. maculatus). Would these three be safe to keep together? Or would i need to keep them in their own tank systems? If they can be kept together i imagine they must be all the same size. With a clearance of a centimeter to an inch in length of one another?

I currently have a 2.5" Frogfish - Zebra (Antennarius striatus). Not sure if the Scientific name is right, shrugs but it looks like this and shaggy.

Where i have a large feeling it be like the same requirements like my Mantis Shrimps kept singularly in their own tank systems. :( Anyways any suggestions are welcomed :)

your thinking is correct...anglers will indeed eat each other, and even fish of similar size will give each other a try. also, the wartskin (A. maculatus) only gets to about 4", while hispids and striateds get grow to about 6" or so.

anglers are great fish, but IMHO, should be kept in species tanx.

BTW, do you have any pix of your zebra mantis (L. maculatus) setup? did you do the "visible tunnel" thing?

Thank you! I bought another Angler to match the size of the Frogfish that i already have. I'll do a trial and error thing and hope that they do okay if not i can always put a divider, shrugs.

Yes, i think i do have a picture but this is my old set up of him.

I just moved him to a new set up. Where i constructed a narrow acrylic casing that can hold less sand but deep enough for the animal to make the vertical shaft burrow. Also once he digs his new home; hopefully he'll do it close to the side. When he does i'll post pictures :)

Question... what is the black tube going down into the jar of marshmallows? It looks like some sort of filter but I cant quite figure out how it works.

Its the intake line of the Emperor 400 and it goes in to a plastic jar. So i can put more sand in the 20 Extra High tank. I didn't want to cut the intake tube shorter and the marshmallow are Ceramic Rings media. So that the Lysiosquillina maculata and or any fish don't end up hiding in to the jar. :)

You assume correctly. The rule about fish being the same size being safe works for most fish but not for anglers, they can eat 2x their own body size. I have herd of people who keep more than one in a tank but I have also herd of people having several by day and only one by night fall...lol My hispid hasn't eaten my Lion so far but there is always the possibility so I keep him well fed..lol Those are some beautiful fish you have there BTW.
