Kingi Angelfish Interest?

Blue Ring Sting

Hi All

As most countries go South Africa doesnt have many rare fish. We have Gems and also the Kingi Angelfish. This angelfish is not always seen and there price is in the thousands.

What I actually wanted to find out is how many people have this fish in the US and also how much did you pay? If you dont have one please post your comments on what you think of this angelfish?

love its rarity but is not a fav...had a chance on a big one a few weeks back and passed...they can sometimes be tough to get big ones to eat...kind of remind me of male crosshatch trigs..they seem to be doing fine and then just die after a few months...would only consider a tiny specimen but there are other fish I would rather have...

They do have something about it but I dont know hey, $ 5000 is alot for it. I would prefer to get them small as well. A bigger specimen is not as nice. Yeah same problem with conspics, regals and bandits. Might struggle to eat.

yeah...they are interesting and I do love the rarity...I have never owned a kingi but have owned conspic, regal, bandit and got lucky as they always eventually ate but I hear kingis, esp when large, can be a real challenge and often whither away and die after a few months...tough to spend that much on a fish that comes with that caveat, lol....

The reason I wanted to find out is my plan is to dive down and collect 1 or 2. I would like to see the interest in them to see if I can export one. With all larger angels its difficult to get them to feed but with a lot of time, patience and love, it can be done. Lol. I agree. Especially if it dies a few months later.

cool, good luck...let us known what happens...

Aren't they illegal to export? I thought that where they came from is extremely illegal to catch and sell?

From what I have heard you can get them at about 3 - 8 inches. I will be going to the spot in the next month or so. No perfectly legal to export but not legal to resell them in South Africa.

you will see 1 after 500 dives,if you are lucky enough ...:blown:

If you do know a spot to find them get some video, would love to see them in their natural habitat.

I really love this fish but like the others would want it in the small size, maybe 3-4 inches, since they aren't the prettiest when they get large.
