As the title says, who has kiss (Keep it Simple, Stupid) tank setup?
Let's show your simple setup without complicated equipments. Sumpless, skimmerless definately qulifies ;) :)

If you can please post a picture and list of equipments and your tank maintanance (water changes etc...) if you can.

Uh oh you just got my attention... I m a bit slammed (and sadly my wife out drank me!) but here we go.

My filtration for my 40Br display:

- Aqua Clear 110 with just a heater in it.

- I do cheat with a CPR 2R+ skimmer

- A single MJ-900 powerhead

- 20G auto top off (Used to be my sump)
- I just recently made a superb DIY vinegar bottle Kalk Reactor, but not sure if I will be using it permanently.

- I am a monster supporter of water changes.. I do a 5G water change each week on my display. I mix my water using two power heads in a bucket for 24 hours minimum before making the change using IO salt.

- Heater: 250 watt Ebo-Jaguer

- I do have a lighting system that's a bit more powerful than the usual set up for a softie dominated tank... 1 x 250 watt 14K Hamilton + 2 x 39 watt HO T5 (Blue Plus and a true actinic)

- Have an awesome Lasko fan from Lowes (Originally got it from Wal-Mart loooong time ago).

Here's a shot with everything:

Lets see...fuge

sump
calcium reactor
10ft by 2ft skimmer
phos reactor
uv steralization
autowater top off from RO/DI unit
ozone
30hp chiller
10,000watt heater
Closed loop system pushing 20,000 gallons of water an hour
RDSB
2000000Wattsof light covering an area of 36x18 (vho t5 t8 t12 Halide in both Single ended and HQI)
canister pool filter
BB main tank
Kalkwasser top off
Aquatronica Aquarium Controller
umm and about ten other things I cant remember right now.

I'm only in the hole about 20,000 dollars but hey at least my damsels are safe ;)

That is how I designed my entire system. I think the KISS method was used as much as possible based on the system size:)

my 450

It's more than not using equipment, but using the simplest, most reliable method to deliver the proper, stable parameters. Literally all I have to do is empty the waste collector every three days, fill to RO/DI reservoir once a week and feed. I would automate the first two, but then I would not check the wet room enough:)

125G mixed reef.
No sump, no refugium
Use xenia as nutrien removal :)
Aqua Clear hang on skimmer
2 330 Penguin filters (empty just for water circulation)
2 MJ 1200 with mods
1 MJ 400 :)
4 40W 48" bulbs from HD 6500K
2 110W 48" VHO actinics
2 Icecaps 660
water changes 20G per month (if I remeber)
5G kalk top off system
Most of the corals are from a 55G that run for over 2 years. The 125 it's been set up since February 06.

Wow.... i am amazed at your setup. You are keeping SPS, clams and Anemones with just 4 40W 48" bulbs from HD 6500K
2 110W 48" VHO actinics
? From your picture they seem to be doing well but i am very surprised.

yes clams are over 2 years in my system, It's got to do a lot with the icecaps overriding the 40W and the color temp of the lamps, some of my LPS are on the sides of the tank where they get some shadow like my frogspawn and fox coral, candy canes and a green goni. Here is a picture of the old 55G. It run the same with 4 Bulbs instead of 6. and a moded seaclone :)

I checked the picture on your link. Really good. I am surprised with your lighting and equipment.

Can you give more info on your lighting? How you hook up 40watt bulbs with icecap etc.... I am sure lots of people are interested in this info. Also can you get 40 watt actinic bubls from HD:D ? Just wondering.... Also what type of refletor did you use? Would you recommend doing your lighing that you have now.

Its quite possible to overdrive NO bulbs up to HO or almost VHO levels.

How long are those bulbs lasting?

:) no actinics from HD, I get them from hellolights. I use the german endcaps and it's the same connections as if you were using VHO using IceCap ballasts. I just change them every 6 months (the 40Ws), according to the icecap website they run at about 80W each, and they just cost less than $20 :). The actinics a little over a year (when the tank start looking yellow :)) I'm not using reflectors I built the canopy and painted white in the inside. I recomend this lighting if you don't want to spend a lot of $$$, it's work for me, 2 + years on the 55G and now 6 months in the 125. I get a lot of growth from SPS but they don't color up like if you were using MH, they still pretty. One good thing about running IceCaps ballast is that you can mix between VHO, NO and PC even T5 as long you don't run over the max wattage. I got used IceCaps from local reefers, I saved money there.

KISS huh? Would a 2.5g with a 2.5g sump, a pump, and a heater qualify? If so I'll post a pic, and you wont be dissappointed. Oh hell why not. And if it doesnt qualify to bad, I wanna post pics, hehe.

Its a self regulating 2.5g, which basically means all I do to it is add water top off every other day or so. Its completely stable and has been running for about 6 months now.
