I called home to check on things and Pam said the tank looked great , crystal clear and stone quiet. Then she said "When can we put some stuff in it ??" I explained (again) about the cycle and how we really don't want to rush things and have heartaches later..you could sure feel the disappointment in her voice :sad1:
Also I don't even have my ballasts yet,I just went ahead and filled the tank so the cycle could begin while I wait on my lighting.
I went and bought a bunch of mums for the porches,I think that made her happy....for a bit :strange:

Dont worry she will be Bitc#^ng soon enough!!

"Do you have any idea how much you have spent on that Da#n tank?"

" Do you really need another piece of coral???"

ETC ETC ETC!!!!

Poor thing. I say buy her a pair of clowns and let the "couple" swim. If you've got live rock they can handle the fish. but no more that 2 until the tank reads zero on ammonia. with each addition you'll see a bump in NH4, but the system should recover in a day or two.

jabo,Im sure she will be tabulating and as long as she can have her things we'll be fine ;)
bshumake,Im afraid I went the "cheap and patient route" Dry rock,LS and some LR rubble...shell just have to use her imagination (me too!)

Ahh. well, there is always the shrimp method. stick a raw shrimp in there for a couple days and remove it. it'll feed the bacteria, then remove it (so it doesn't completely rot) and it'll help the cycle. you'll need something in there to move the bacteria along. i've used the cycle booster stuff at Kermits before and it worked nicely. its basically live liquid culture in a ammonia/nitrate solution.

I saw that yesterday while I was there Bio Spira I think.I should have got it then.
What Im mostly wanting is the rock to gain coralline and critters but I know that takes months.Fish are cool but Ive got a nice FW display for watching fish...What made me wanna reef was the diversity and amount of life I could house. The theory that alot of corals cannot even be correctly classified due to so many transitional species forms amazes me.
Lol,I have one lone bristleworm in the fuge.

I used Bio Spira to cycle my tank. It did work but... if I had to do it over again I would wait it out and do it the tried and true way. It seemed to make it where the cycle never completed and ammonia tests never did show any ammonia even long after it was fully stocked. I had to switch to silca (?) based test kit to get accurate readings.

I have used Bio Spira (In its original packaging/form) to stave off spikes after a couple major moves/upgrades. Worked like a charm for me. GL!
