I've managed to kill my second Kohen's Echinata :(

This coral has been around a while now, so I would think there are plenty of success stories out there. Who's got some larger colonies and this point, and what light/flow do you have it in?

Hmm, tried that on this second one. No luck :-/ The one in the shade and lower flow actualyl lasted longer.

I keep mine at mid tank...Both vertically and horizontally. Seems to really like it there. I notice its growth is affected by Alk swings. Seems to do the best when my Alk is around 8.5

I can't get my $500 efflo to do anything either :(.

As far as the Kohen's Echinata, I had a couple branch large frag that I managed to almost kill into oblivian. I saved a few small tips and they have been slooooooowly growing back. The coral seems very happy up top, out of the main light, in the back of the tank. It never skips a beat now but growth is super slow.

OK, thanks folks. I was afraid I'd get a bunch of posts like "Oh yeah, mine has tripled in size since I bought it" or "mine's the hardiest acro in my tank" :D

I don't feel too bad now, but won't be trying again. Thank goodness I never bought the Icefire :eek2:

Oh my gosh SD, I tell ya I've had the icefire for half a year now and it's just laid the base. This thing is pain-ful!

I've been looking to get a frag of the Kohen's... I have had a frag of Icefire for about a year or so now... It is doing well, but as stated, growth is slow... But at least it hasn't died... :D Maybe I won't get the Kohens if so many people have had problems with it... I've given up on the Dustin's Deepwater after 2 different frags...

Yeah, my hawkins rocks! Agreed, not a echinata though.

Just a thought, If there's trouble with the Kohen's Echinata, maybe bring up the subject down on Liveaquaria's forum, they are a sponser here on RC.... Kevin himself sometimes visits the forums....

Pretty sure the consensus is that the ORA hawkins is a turaki.
same critter in my mind- TCN and ora hawkins.

Amen to that. Grows well in my tank under 400 radiums.

I have a small wild colony of what looks exactly like the Ice/Fire. It did great for a long time but has given me trouble lately.

I have tried to pass it around my local community but, frags seldom survive. I have also noticed that extreme high light is required for color. If you can make it happy it is one of the most spectacular pieces you will ever see. So pretty it almost jumps through the glass to smack you in the face:)

So, as I said, the Kohen's Echinata has been around for some time. Anyone have pics of some decently sized pieces?
