Koi pond clean out

My wife and I just spent 14 hours doing a Spring clean-out of our koi pond. Started at 8 this morning, and just got in. It's the worst day of the year, but once done, you know that you won't have to do it again for another year. The longest part is filling it back up. It takes quite a while to run 3,000 gallons from two garden hoses. The fish seem to have made the switch back in just fine, but we really won't know for a couple of weeks.

Just had to share.....

lets see some pics! i have thought about a koi pond before, always liked them. Then i threw all my money down the saltwater drain so no outdoor fish for me

That looks real nice. you have got a nice green thumb. I try to keep my yard nice, but i have two dogs. only the tuff stuff lives, like dirt and weeds.

have you ever got into the 'G' scale trains (LGB)? A yard like that is the ideal location!

Thanks. Actually, I'm a collector of Z scale trains; I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I haven't done much with it for years however. Just too many hobbies.

That is the other size i play with. I have built a dinning room table with a glass top to hold a double track mainline for my fathers house. He lives in a small house and didnt have a lot of space to work with but wanted a layout for grandkids (I dont have kids, but others in the family do). It is pretty cool to eat dinner with a train running inches below from your plate. I will track down some pics. The speed control was built into the side of the table as well as switches for house lights. no track switches in the layout since i didnt want to many derailments with kids playing with the trains more often than not.

I got into gardening due to my love for the large trains. I want a cordless drill snow plow for winter fun! I watched one shoot snow 5' in the air, have had to have one ever since.

Awesome looking pond! Looks like you got some BIG koi in there. What do you do with them in the winter?

They spend the winter right in the pond. It is about forty inches deep, and I keep some circulation going and they do just fine. You have to keep a hole in the ice for the gasses to get out, but a pump hitting the surface will do most of that. I have two low voltage heaters (100w) that also help when it gets really cold.
