Kole Tang and Flame angel die overnight.

Hey guys,

I woke up today to find my Kole tang and Flame Angel were both dead in my 125g. They were dead in the exact same spot (not sure if the hermit crabs dragged them around). The kole tang had been in the tank for 3+ months. Rabitfish was an addition about a week ago. Both fish were eating food just fine.

My current lifestock in the tank is a Rabbitfish and 2x clown fish.

Water parameters:

PH: 7.99
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
Ammonia: 0
Salinity: 1.024

Any ideas what could have possibly happened?

What's your temperature? If you touch your water can you detect electric current?

How's the O2 exchange?
Sorry about the loss of your wet pets.

I would say pretty good. I have 2x Hydor Koralia wave makers (1050~1150 GPH each) and Eheim 1262 (900 GPH). I just want to make sure I am not doing anything wrong here. They were eating and swimming fine last night.

Because it was so sudden I would think it is not disease related otherwise you would have seen signs earlier. I would suspect decrease in oxygen saturation. Any other tanks changes lately? Any injury marks to fish?

The hermit crabs had eaten most of them by the time I got there this morning. The Flame fish was being bullied by the Kole Tang when it was first introduced but after a while, they got along fine. He was in the tank for a bit over a week and eating fine. Only other changes was Astrea snails breed in the taken and the babies hatched 2 days ago. Nothing other than that. I did notice some blacks spots (attached) on my rabbit fish upon closer inspection. I ordered some Prazipro to deal with it.

Should I do a 30% water change and clean all the equipment just to be safe?

Check them over for red spots. A rabbit that's feeling cramped for space can freak out if cornered, and the usual victims are largish flat-bodied tankmates. That is quickly lethal.

5 fish in a 125 gallon tank. i really doubt there was a co2 issue or a lack of Oxygen issue.
both dying on the same day is strange.

only thing i will say is bring your water in and get it doubled check by your lfs. maybe you are testing incorreclty. maybe

Water change is always a good idea after a death just in case of an ammonia spike. As mentioned, maybe the Foxface stung them?

probably a disease, yes the foxface could of killed them, but both in one night, possible, but in a 125 with 5 fish not that likely imo. if you didnt treat the fish, they might have had something wrong with them, adding the new fish might of caused stress weaking their immune system

but in the end no one will really know. just check levels, do a major water change and go slow when adding new fish

What *should* I be treating quarantined fish with?
