Hello - Our kole tang is acting really strange - darting quickly - stopping, backing up, then darting again - over and over. Sometimes he swims upside down. Its to the point now that he will ram into live rock. The result is one very beat up cole tang nose. His tail fin spikes are out 24/7 ( I've never seen them before) Its been doing this for about a week now. He eats well and is not bothering any of the other fish (flame angel, 2 dart, carpenters wrasse, 3 chromis, snowflake blenny, misc shrimp crabs). feeding time is about the only time he is calm. Our concern is sooner or later he is going to accidentally kill another fish. We have had the kole for 7 months and have NOT added anything since. I see no signs of ick or anything strange other than the damage he is doing 2 himself. Water parameters Ph 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrItes 0, nitrAtes <5 , calcium 440, dK 10 (drops), mag 1400, phos < .25.
Sg 1.025.
The tank is 75G with 125lbs of LR. We place the rocks in such a way to allow open swimming in the front of the tank.
so we have thought about disease but there are no signs, Thought about sight BUT he reacts to our hands so we know he has sight.
We thought about stray electrical current but we have the tank grounded and the other fish are acting fine.
1. This leaves us to believe its a mating issue.
2. it hit the rocks 1 too many times and is now mentally ill.
3. something lodged in its mouth but nothing is visable
What are your thoughts?
Thanks Much-
