Unfortunately gobys' are jumpers but not as bad as jawfish. Can't you make a tighter mesh lid?

lol.. well theirs way to much on their now. i cant see how the jawfish jumped out.

Could you post a pick of the mesh lid? Maybe some one would spot a small gap or something (not to insult your craftsmenship though). Also, maybe if the mesh is light weight, the fish might be knocking the lid up when they jump and hit it? Hope you can find a solution- jawfish are so cool.

What type of substrate are you using with your jawfish? IME once your jaws have built themselves a home(or 5-6) they are much less likely to jump.

Also, if your lights are coming on suddenly this can also cause your jawfish to "shoot for the roof" (mine tend to sleep outside there burrow)

I hope you get your set-up to hold a jawfish, they certainly are cool. Good luck!!

Can you tell me what is the best substrate for a yellowheaded jawfish? I am thinking about one for the 29 I am setting up.

Thanks,

You can use most any substrate that you like, just make sure to have some crushed coral for them to use in their burrow.

Being a proud owner of my awesome pearly jawfish i will say, no. There no fish like the jawfish in its awesome personality and cool burrow making skills. Even though my tanks not covered i still can say just use some eggcrate and create a makeshift topping.
