Koralia Circulation Pump

Vortech

Vortech

I just looked up the specs on the vortech 100-3000 gph but I see two problems

It can't swivel and it is $350!!!!!!!!!!

That's a lot of corals.

I already have two SEIO 1100 pumps running in my 120. A koralia will be the third pump in it. I don't think I have a problem direction currents with 3 pumps. I am allowing the currents from the two SEIO pumps crashing into each other perpendicularly right now near the top of the tank. There is enough turbulance so that every corals are getting good water movement around them. It's just that some SPS's are so densely branched that some parts of them are not getting high flow they enjoy.

I picked up two of the 3's at Johnnys today. I'm very pleased with the flow. I had needed something better than my several MJ's but everything is always so expensive. I like the rounded guard as well. It pushes everything in front of the stream to be blown off.

I ordered a 3 (850) today as well (not around here at retail) looking forward to seing it work....cant wait till someone builds an affordable version with cord and motor outside

Yes but 3000GPH and putting no heat into the tank, being able to swivel would be nice, but the stream is so broad its not a problem.

SPS tanks obviously can use two or more Koralia pumps. Take a look at this thread. Isn't the frag tank rather ridiculous looking with two huge pumps? :

I believe that you have two Vortech's in your 90. I heard that one Vortech alone can create a strong tow from the bottom of the pump in addition to the great flow from the impeller. You must have tremendous amount of turbulant flow with two of them operating together.

They are on a random cycles through my AcJr, mostly it switches between the two, sometimes they are both on.

If anyone is in/around Auburn and wants to see them working, please let me know.

I'm not sure that two #3's aren't too much in my 90 gal. After being in overnight, with two pointed at each other on opposite ends of the tank at the top of the tank, they have exposed moved several inches of sand and exposed the bottom of my tank. Its just creating an odd current, but wow, these things have some flow. My corals seem to love it though. All my SPS are opened up much better than they've ever been before.

Tomoko, I wouldn't worry much about heat build up with the Koralia. If it's drawing 7-8 watts, how much heat can it really generate? The broader area of coverage is exactly what I was after so it worked well for me.

I've also seen a couple of mods for it already which were designed to get it to push more water. If you look at it, it's really just a fixed propeller pushing water (no boat to propel) so if you change the pitch of the prop, you should change the width of the flow pattern. I'm sure that we're going to see a lot more mods on these pumps in the future. So far though, I'm pretty pleased with mine.
