I bought one from Coral Reef (Johnny has the above for $53.99- $6.00 cheaper than Marine Depot) and love it.

I would advise anyone to consider carefully which one to buy. I bought the 1200 GPH for my 150 but that is two strong for corals near the pump. I don't have much beach space so I can't flow down the glass very easly. What I wish I had bought two 400's or 600's. The attachment is a combo suction/magnet and has a firm grip! The swivle has a wide range so you can stir up all the craps on the rocks.

Johnny has a 1200 GPH in the front tank and he can flow down the face of the reef. This device makes interesting currents. The back wash is very strong and adds flow to parts of the reef missed by the forward thrust.

I tried to hook it up to my Red Sea Wave Maker but that was not a good idea! After a large klunk, I removed it.

Anybody else have one and have suggestions???

I need some more/better flow in my 65, I was going to mod a MJ1200, or should i buy one of these ?
 
I was noticing these at CRA. I was impressed how much flow the one made in one of his larger display tanks. One was pointed upward and was bubbling water up a couple inches above the surface even though it was submersed fairly deep. I may invest in a couple. I'm looking to get more flow on the front of my rockface. I also like the magnet mount.
 
Hmm, I was thinking about adding the biggest one (1200 GPH?) Is the flow adjustable on these?

I currently have two SEIO 1100 in my 120. I should have enough flow, but actually I had to add a small powerhead close to my fast growing green A. milipora recently since it started STN'ing in the area where water flow has slowed down due to heavy branching. The addition of the powerhead helped greatly and now my green mili is looking great (the mili is reclaiming the area where the tissue was lost.)

I need to consider adding another SEIO or the Koralia pump because of my densely growing SPS's.

Im getting the 850.Read alot of good things about them!Might force tunz to come off that price.But Hard-Rock said it didn't work well with his AC Jr.
 
I think one big difference between this and a tunze would be that a tunze has all cords and power on the outside of the tank and the koralia does not. Please let me know if this is correct because this is an important issue for me.thanks

I think it depends on the shape of the tank and where the softies are located.

I went back to CRA and bought a 1 # 3 and 1 # 2 and put one at each end of my 6 foot long 150g. For me this is a better option than one #4 (I wish I had bought two #2's). Like I said before, the backwash to the pump is as useful as the forward. (Johnny said that he had to reorder more pumps after Sat meeting because so many people bought them)

There is not a 1:1 comparison between a power head and this pump. There is more current moving corals with the K pump than a power head of the same GPH. The broad flow realy makes the K superior.

As for cords in and out, I can live with the cord inside esp considering the price difference with other sim products.
 
Tropical pet cove had these the other day when I was down there. Very nice power head. good flow pattern price is a lot better than than the tunze. Now let's see how long they last.

I just bought one of these last week and I absolutely love it. It is perfect for my tank because nothing suctions to my acrylic tank, so I would have to always put a pump on the bottom that would get sand sucked into it. I just ordered another one (a larger one for the other side of the tank.) The magnet suctions well to my tank and I like that I can see the impeller to know if it needs cleaned. The Tunze I looked at first then saw the price and went with this one. I am glad I did!

I know you are not in Alabama but our LFS (Coral Reef Aquatics) even beats their price and you don't have to pay for shipping!

I have always had a lot of current in my tank but I noticed that my Hairry Shrooms are at least 25% bigger. I move the heads and notice all the crap float off the rocks.
 
Does anybody know what size pumps CRA has and for what prices? I'm debating investing in one or maybe two. I'm still using old MJ1200's and I'm not really happy with the flow.
 
I just put an 850 on my 110 gallon tonight. Just perfect! The pump 4 (1200 gph) would have been way too much.
 
I stopped by CRA this evening on the way home from work. John has already stocked back up with all Koralia pumps. John showed me how well his Koralia 4 works by pouring some Aragamilk on top of it. Aragamilk made it very easy to see the flow pattern of the pump. I asked him to do the same to his SEIO 1100 in another tank. I could tell that a SEIO 1100 clearly had a much stronger and faster flow than Koralia 4, but its flow was more focused. The flow from the Koralia pump was more widely spread out and it was not as far reaching as SEIO 1100. It was very interesting to see how these pumps push water. I'd like to add a Koralia 4 to my 120. I don't think it's too much for my SPS dominated 120 tank. It seems to me that it depends on how I direct the pumps. The only thing that I am concerned about is the heat from the three large pumps.

oh yeah that is what I was talking about. the vortech is the one that the cord and motor is out of the tank!

For an SPS it would be ok but consider buying two smaller ones. With two, you can have oposing currents and you don't have to be as pickey on where you place them on the glass.

I discovered that I can't let too much current hit the surface because it creates micro bubbles. I am think about modifing one with a shield on the top (up side ) and see how that changes the flow. I am also going to try moving one of the pumps to the backside of my mid tank brace. Being able to swivel the pump in a wide range sure sturrs up the detritus.
