Koralia Nanos or Wavemaker...Hmmm

Hi all,

I am setting up a 24 gallon Aquapod system, and I am trying to decide on the type of flow that I should use. I am trying to pick between using two or three of the Hydor Koralia Nano PHs, or with a spare Red Sea Wavemaster Pro and three MJ400s.

Would appreciate some input, thanks!

I'd go with the one that provides the highest volume of turnover, which would be the Koralias. The maxijet only gives you 110 gph, whereas the koralias give you 240 gph. Not only that, it is also a more diffused stream than any of the maxijets.

Not sure if the koralias are good candidates for wavemaker's. Some have had issues with that setup....noise and reduced life among others. I would rather use the maxi-jet's, you can increase flow by cutting the nozzles on the MJ's or step up to larger maxi-jet's....they are workhorses on a wavemaker. jmo

Cheers,

Cheers,

well, i think he meant the koralias OR the wavemaker. Not the koralias set up as wavemakers.. but i could be wrong.

No No, I meant either koralias running constant, or the wavmaker/maxijet combo.

Still not sure which setup I want... Anyone else have any experience/input

Don't overdo it man. What are you going to keep in this tank? Sps dominated im assuming due to your new lights? K1's push out 400 which is already like 18x's. My vote is 2 nano's. If you want more then add another nano.

If the OP does want to keep sps then 18x is not enough flow. ime 40x is pretty much minimum. I still say go for K2+

I have a 29g and had a MJ1200 and wanted more flow, so I added a K1. I thought that would be enough flow for a mostly SPS tank. Wrong. I now have a K1, K2, and MJ1200 in there. If I could do it over again, I would either use 2 MJ1200 with mods on a wavemaker or 2 K2s. The Koralias are great pumps, but the dispersion of the flow makes it seem like 100gph less than what they are rated. Place them right in the tank so you wont get a constant sand storm, and they would be good.

Get 2 tunze nanostream 6025s. Koralias Nanos will be too weak for your tank. You will need a least 4 koralias nanos if you want to keep SPS. I had 2 koralias nano in my 10g sps/lps tank before and it was good but with your 24g that won't be enough.
