Koralia Problems

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with their Koralia powerheads killing fish. I have a Koralia #4 that is on constantly. I am not having a problem with fish getting into the powerhead, but with them being stuck to the sides where the water comes in. Twice I have checked the tank in the morning and there is a fish more or less glued to the side of the powerhead.

To remedy this I am thinking of putting the powerhead on a wavemaker or some kind of pulser so that there will be a moment of less force drawing the fish towards it so they can get away. Also, I'm thinking of moving to the Tunze powerheads to regulate the flow.

Do we think this will fix the problem? Does anyone has any other ideas?

I've never heard of that. I have two of these #4's and I've never had a problem.

What kind of fish? It must be a slow swimmer. Occasionally, a piece of nori gets stuck to it and the fish will pull it off.

if the fish are getting stuck to a K4 then they are already sick. check your water params. healthy fish wont get stuck against a korilia

The two fish were a copperbanded and a flame fin tang. They don't appear to be sick though. My nitrates are a bit high, but everything else (phosphate, O2, nitrite, ammonia, tempo, salinity) are all a good values. Also, no spots or frayed fins.

Is it possible that they "fall asleep" and float into it?

i still think your fish are sick. they should have no problem swiming away from the PH even if they got sucked onto it while sleeping

+1 on the sick fish. I have two Koralia 3's and I have much smaller fish than tangs swimming up and picking algae off them without getting stuck on them. There is most likely something wrong with the fish that is draining it of it's strength. Do you have a quarantine tank you can put them in for the time being to monitor them?

I do have a quarentine, but how should I decide who to put in and who not to. I have a 125g with 10 fish. Do you think monitoring their eating very closely could give some clues. I do want to give the impression that I am neglectful. I feel as if everyone eats when I feed. Colors are good too.

The Flame fin is a recent addition (> 2 weeks in DT, with 3 weeks in a quarrentine before). I have a Scopus that is the dominant fish. She gave the flame fin a little harassment, but nothing over the top that I saw.

Are their other signs to look for that I'm over-looking?

We all get issues with our tank from time to time, don't think you neglect... sometimes things happen. First I would check your parameters. If fish are getting harassed, even if a little bit this can cause lots of stress as well. Yes, you can monitor their feeding, you can feed the bigger fish first and then try to target feed the smaller ones and see if they are eating.

i totally agree with this comment, i would suggest illness as well, a healthy fish wouldnt get stuck, only a sick 1, this is my view, hope all starts to get better for you

Im pretty shure korolia pumps cannot be used on a wave maker anyway. I believe they are continous duty only. They tend to make noise upon start up.

Yeah, healthy fish are not going to get stuck to the intake section of these powerheads. I run about 7 different koralias and never have any issues with fish getting stuck to them. Most of the algae eaters will even pick at them for food.

looking at your stocking list im not suprised, most probably bullying with the fish you have

I have 3 HK4's running in my 90g with a small chromis, firefish, and a tomato clown and have never had an issue.

Not making any determinations on why that has been happening to you, just my own personal experience with those powerheads.
