Koralia wavemaker no reverse mod

My Koralias were occasionally starting up in reverse using my AC Jr. as a wave maker. So, here's some pics pics of how I'm using weed eater string to keep my Koralia 4s from reversing on startup, enjoy:D The power heads will make a little noise from time to time when they correct themselves but it's something I can live with.

where to drill the holes for the weed eater string

string through both holes. Notice offset of string, this is so it won't interfere with the shaft.

melt one end of the string

use back of lighter to form the melted end of the string so it won't pull through.

and finished! Install and never worry about them staring up in revers again.

Any chance we can get some pics of it completely put together. I'm just not getting the total picture. Is there any strain put on the motor going on and off.

Is your Koralia normaly loud (hum) and does this effect the normal noise? I have 2 K 3's and really like them but they are driving me crazy with the constant hum.

Also interestd in the lond term results of your mod as I was thinking of using my AC 3 to wave these 2 but can't get past the darn hum.

Thanks for sharing.

I'll snap some fully assembled pics for you guys in the AM, when my lights come on. Can't really comment on the hum, I can't really notice anything.

I dont know anything about any hum on my #4 ..i have never heard any noise what so ever comming from mine.

disclaimer...i have 3 kids running around the house and they make more than enough noise to drownd out the sounds of
the spcae suttle taking off from my couch

HAHA, I know what you mean agreeive. I guess that I must just have a couple of bad ones. I'm probably going to take them apart to see what I can see.

HAHAHA, the boys aren't bad but I would like to take them apart from time to time. :) I blame it on my mother. She laid a curse on me when I was little, "you'll get yours".

FYI, I find that giving your koralia a soak in vinnegar ever few months really keeps them performing in top notch fashion, and quietly.

Why does some weed whacker sting prevent a motor from turning backwards?

That was a good question. How does this work?

It doesn't really - it does prevent it from running backwards. Starts in reverse -> prop hits stop -> prop stops/bounces -> spins in the correct direction.

The soft stop prevents chattering associated with hard stops.

So is the idea that when it is working in the correct direction the water flow pushes the cord up out of the blade but in reverse it gets pulled into and caught by the blade. I am just trying to picture how the cord stays out of the way when it is working correctly.

i think he is talking about the prop bouncing out of the magnet motor hitting the guard, then it is forced to turn into the right direction starting the pump correctly, it is not in the way as the prop just bounces and hits it, then goes back away from the line. I could be completely wrong too.

cool mod though!
