Koralia

I have a Koralia 4 and now am using it with a wave maker. The main problem I had was during start-up the Koralia rattles until the impeller catches. I emailed Koralia about how to fix the problem and they told me to get a bushing to put at the end of the impeller. I tried to find something that would work and didn't really find anything. So I used a small wall anchor, seems to have done the trick. No more rattle at start-up. The tech guy I spoke to said Hydor is working on a wave maker made for the koralia that will make them variable speed never completely shutting off, that will be nice, sounds similar to maybe a Tunze.

Hello
I was just reading about these and they are very cheap for what they are. Are you happy with it? I am thinking of getting a couple of them.

Yes they are excellent. I am very pleased. When my MaxiJets die they will all be replaced with these, maybe before. I only needed to use the above fix for use with a wave maker, I will probably come up with a more permanent solution but this is working great for now. They are completely silent when running all the time.

Thanks sounds great. I am going to buy a couple in about a month. If you would keep me posted on how the mod you did works? I would like to use a wavemaker.

I would replace ANY maxijets with such as the Koralia, SEIO, or Tunze Nanostream. The flow created by a maxijet is almost useless for a reef tank as it is SO laminar (firehouse-like) in nature and really contributes very little overall.

On the other hand, STREAM style powerheads like the Koralia, SEIO, and Tunze Nanostream create a wider wall-like movement of water that will be much more useful.

(Just my two cents, feel free to ignore... :) )

I would have to agree, they were a cheap alternative to at least get some water movement but not even in the same league as the Koralia. Considering they are comparable in price, my new tank will be all Koralia.

I have 2 of the 6025 tunze nano streams. I sent the first set of them back for an exchange because of rattling. Now the 2nd set is making the same noise. I am not please at all with these pumps. The volume is great but the noise is not so great. It sounds like the Koralia pumps are pretty quite compared to the nano streams and they are alittle cheaper to boot.

Well, it is important to keep in mind that the Koralia and Tunze Nanostreams are both VERY new on the market and are BOUND to experience challenges for a while.

The nanostream replacements I recieved from Roger was supposed to be the new improved pumps. Apparently on the 1st batch they had bored out to big the hole where the impeller inserts which was causing the noise. With the 2nd set I was satified for about 2 weeks and then they started making the same noise again. I don't know what to do. May call Roger again.

Doug,
You might try giving Roger another call. I've got 2 6045 and 1 6025 and all have been working great for a couple of weeks now. Tunze are most reliable pumps I've ever owned. They are pretty new, so they will be tweaked a bit.
GL on getting it worked out.

Kevin
