I do this mod but the inconsistency seems to get worse. Before it will get clogged after a week. Now it get clogged after 2 days or so. When I do this mod I also upgrade the intake pump to maxijet 900. Did not help at all :(

When the reactor media level gets to around a little less than half way, the fines in the reactor start to clog it.

That's the point at which I rinse the fines out of the media in there and add more.

Personally I find that the "JTMA mod" works best with a pinch valve on the very end of the effluent line. I use the gate valve to reduce the flow to a small stream, and the pinch valve to set a specific effluent rate.

Does anyone use the metal check valve that comes with the Marine Depot package of the Korallin Calc reactor?

The JTMA mod allows precise tuning. I didn't need any other valves to control the effluent rate once I installed the mod and divert the water from my main pump to feed the reactor. To be honest I forgot that I even own a reactor now. :)
