I started up a Korallin BioDenitrator S-3002 two weeks ago to combat the nitrate
levels in my tank to stop the outbreaks of Cyanobacteria or Dinoflagellates. If not stop at least minimize the chance of them occurring.

This will apparently take a month or so before I can expect the reactor to kick in and measure any drop in nitrate levels in the tank.

Used a few of those on on client systems and repurposed single (S-Rx) and dual CaRx (LaCl2 Rxs) for NO3 and PO4 issues on larger systems. Personally I prefer this method of NO3 reduction on larger systems.

For cyano and dinos issues, I dosed potassium permanganate a few times a week and it'll kick it back for a few weeks/months depending on your system. IMHO/E, low ORP is a good indicator for a higher chance of cyano and dino presence. Add slowly in a high flow from water return or powerhead to get a light mauve color and the corals just start to "get puffy".

Your skimmer will start to skim "more" and water will turn a brownish hue from mauve/light purple as the MnO3 is reduced to MnO.

BE CAREFUL dosing that stuff and have ANY dechlorinator on hand to neutralize it if you dose too much. It stains fabric and skin...ya...nice purple at first but it turns brown.

Not sure if one can get it anymore as it creates an intense exothermic reaction when mixed with glycerine. I've used that combo to show my kids how I can start a fire without matches, lighter, magnifying glass, pee/water in a plastic bag nor accelerants and part of the "firestarter camping tool kit".

Korallin BioDenitrator S-3002 re-set

The Korallin BioDenitrator was getting dirty but it still worked fine.
The dirt showed up after I used GFO, maybe just a coincidence or maybe not?

I simply rinsed the pure Sulfur media and the Aragonite with RO water on filter floss a couple of times.

Now looks like it did when I first started it 7 month ago. Set the drip to 1 drip per second and start testing again every day.

I hope that it will start as fast again as it did the first time. It took less than 2 weeks last time to get to automatic mode.
